While African refugees see racial bias as US welcomes Ukrainians - I see it as TIME TO PREPARE FOR MIDTERM ELECTIONS

Ukraine refugees are being welcomed into the US with open arms.  Many African Refugees wonder "what would happen if the millions fleeing that Eastern Europe nation were a different hue?"  (To read entire article, click on link at bottom of this article). And my response to these and other similar questions is:

STOP IT!!!

I'm not going to even read the article!!

Why ask questions for which you already have the answers???

America is a racist country - it started out that way - and will remain that way - except for the minor steps we make - which they always try to find a way of undoing.

We got much bigger fish fry - and we had better begin taking a bite out of the butt of the big elephant in the room, or it's going to sit on us!!

THIS IS A MIDTERM YEAR!! - AND IF ALL OUR FOCUS, ENERGY, EFFORTS, STRATEGIES, LEGISLATIONS AND MOVEMENTS - NOT TO MENTION OUR VOTES - AREN'T FOCUSED ON THAT, THEN WE ARE JUST AS STUCK ON STUPID AS WE WERE DURING THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

AND I TRULY HOPE WE'VE LEARNED THE NAME OF THE GAME BY NOW!!

YES! OUR AFRICAN BROTHERS HAVE TO STOP KILLING EACH OTHER

YES!  THEY LIED WHEN THEY TOLD YOU TO COME TO AMERICA TO SEEK ASYLUM BECAUSE WE WERE THE "LAND OF THE FREE."

YES! WE ARE BARELY IN A POSITION TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES SO WE HAVE SOME PROBLEMS IN HELPING OUR REFUGEE BROTHERS - SOMETHING THIS COUNTRY WILL DO - BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE NOT COMPETING WITH OTHER ETHNIC CAUCASOIDS.

THE QUESTION ALSO HAS MASOCHISTIC OVERTONES - AND WE HAVE TO STOP BEING SUBSERVIENT TO RACIST CAUCASOIDS WHO MEAN US NO GOOD!!

WE HAVE TO PRESSURE THEM TO CHARGE T-RUMP AND HIS HENCHMEN WITH TREASON!!   AND ARREST AND CONFISCATE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE.

In case you've forgotten the bad old days of repuglycon evil, just take a look at these two.  It's enough to chill your bones - thank goodness there are conscientious Americans throughout the US coming together to put a stop to this.  All you have to do is get up out of your easy chair, go and vote.  Takes less than 5 minutes to do so, but will have a lifetime affect on what happens here in the US, as well as in your own local community.  

Let's put an end to this reign of terror and error once and for all!  VOTE BLUE!!!

Final Push for 2014 Election Comes as “Let My People Vote” Electoral Program Surpasses 400,000 Person-to-Person Conversations

Washington, D.C. – Today, clergy and faith voters with the PICO National Network, the largest grassroots, faith-based organizing network in the country, are focused on the massive neighbor-to-neighbor, non-partisan Get Out The Vote effort to turnout African-American and Latino voters who don’t usually vote in mid-term elections.
This weekend, volunteer faith leaders from PICO surpassed conversations with more than 400,000 voters about faith and voting and still plan to talk to thousands more as polls open tomorrow.
PICO organizations are working in key battleground states, such as Florida, Louisiana and Colorado, as well as on critical ballot initiatives including Question 4 in Massachusetts regarding earned sick time and California’s Proposition 47 that would reclassify many non-violent felonies as misdemeanors.

In these final days leading up to tomorrow’s elections, PICO logged live conversations with more 10,000 targeted voters a day. Almost 6,000 volunteers were scheduled to work over the weekend in the big GOTV push, demonstrating the power of the power people of faith can have when they stand up for their family, neighbors and coworkers.

The Let My People Vote program has recruited and trained more than 10,000 volunteer leaders, developed new community relationships and met voters where they are: in the pews, on their phones, and at their doors in Florida, Louisiana, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

PICO volunteers are emphasizing the importance of voting to advance racial and economic justice issues at the heart of what it means to be a person of faith in America—especially in the wake of the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the lack of action on immigration reform.

“As a person of faith, every single conversation we’re having on the doors or on the phones is a sacred act that will bring people to the polls whose voices would not otherwise be heard,” said Rosie Washington, a lead community organizer with the Micah Project in New Orleans. “As faith voters, especially those of us in the African American community, we cannot and will not stand on the sidelines while families around us are struggling to make ends meet, to find good jobs, to take care of their kids, and to get back on their feet.”

“The Let My People Vote program is about the moral obligation to stand for forgiveness, redemption and restoration,” said Desmond Meade, PICO’s Faith in Florida State Director of Live Free campaign. “This is God’s work with a focus on empowering our families, our friends, and our communities to make sure the voices of voters who have been marginalized or locked out of the voting process are engaged and have the opportunity to fight for what they believe in.”
Pastor Michael McBride, director of the PICO’s Live Free campaign said that people of faith have the power to change the crises our country faces. “David in Psalm 28:2, says ‘Hear my cry for mercy, as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your most holy place.’ With those words in mind, the faith community will work through Election Day to empower and engage voters in black, Latino, and other communities to help heal our nation by voting and encouraging our neighbors to do the same,” said Pastor McBride. “When everyone in our community votes, elected officials cannot ignore us.”

     In closing, it is necessary for me to point out that there are at least three important reasons why you must vote for somebody (even if it's a write-in candidate, including yourself if you want).  One: The first rule of warfare is to do exactly what your enemy doesn't want you to do. And the enemy is so-called white supremacy, which has created modern day "poll tax and literacy test" anti-voting obstacles like photo ID. Two:  By voting, you increase your chances to get called for jury duty...stopping courthouse racism in its tracks. Three: Your ancestors fought, died, and won the battle for you to elect people like Dave Richardson, Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, Adam Clayton Powell, Chicago Mayor Harold Washington, revolutionary lawyer/Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba, and many others.  Thank you.

How can you find the location of your polling place?

   Call the Citizens’ Access Center at 866-268-8603.

 What time do the PENNSYLVANIA polling places open and close?

   They open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

 Who is legally permitted to vote?

   Basically, anyone who is registered is permitted to vote.

 What type of identification is needed in order to be permitted to vote?

   Although you might not necessarily need any if you have voted before, you should play it safe by taking with you your driver’s license, non-driver’s license, passport, state identification, federal identification, military identification, employee identification, student identification, or voter’s identification card. Or you should take your utility bill, bank statement, current paycheck, or government paycheck (but those bills, statements, or paychecks must have your name and address pre-printed on them).

 What do you do if you are not permitted to vote when you get to the PENNSYLVANIA polling place?

   Immediately call the Committee of Seventy at 215-557-3600 or the Voter Registration Office at 215-686-1590. If that doesn’t work, immediately demand a “Provisional Ballot,” which you have an absolute right to receive and that ballot can serve as a kind of temporary vote until the problem is resolved.

 Are people who have been convicted of crimes permitted to vote?

   If you have been convicted of a felony but have been released from jail (or from a halfway house), you are permitted to vote.
   If you have been convicted of a misdemeanor and even if you are still in jail (or in a halfway house) for that misdemeanor, you are permitted to vote. But obviously, it would have to be done by absentee ballot if you are still in jail (and probably if you are in a halfway house as well).
   If you are on probation or house arrest or are a released parolee and that probation or house arrest or released parolee status is for either a felony or a misdemeanor, you are permitted to vote.
   If you have traffic tickets, owe child support, and have any situation like that, you are permitted to vote.
 Are you permitted to wear buttons, tee-shirts, etc. regarding a particular candidate?
   In Philadelphia, the answer is yes. You are permitted to “endorse” a candidate by (passively) wearing buttons, tee-shirts, etc., but you must immediately leave the polling place after you vote. You are not permitted to “electioneer” for a candidate by (actively) campaigning.

BLACK VOTERS MUST SHOW UP FOR MIDTERM ELECTIONS - TIME TO SPONSOR VOTER EXPRESS BUSES TO CARRY THEM TO THE POLLS

I just read an article posted in THE ROOT, entitled "If Black Voters Don't Show Up for Midterms, 'Shame on Them.'"

While I've been saying the same thing, I think we all need to do more across the country than just criticize.  We have to be the facilitators to make sure that they have the means to participate, en masse, in the elections.  

Let's get back to some real, old fashioned, Black in the day, grass roots measures to make sure that our people are represented at the polls in massive numbers.  When we first began voting, fifty (50) years ago, the responsibility of all our civic and civil rights organizations to hand carry our Black voters to the polls - whether we used vans, buses, or individual vehicles -  whatever.  It was an act of solidarity in the face of racists who were doing everything they could to block or intimidate them to keep them from voting.  

Guess what - we are facing those very same threats today - by use of electronic and social media, TV ads, trickery lies, deceit; bogus ID requirements - our people are the prime targets of voter nullification across the country.  It's criminal, but it is also demoralizing and can have a negative affect on the numbers who turn out.  

So,  it is not enough to admonish our people!!  We should have a Get On The Bus - Get Out The Vote movement across the country!  We can call it the BLACK VOTER EXPRESS! Or whatever you choose - but you get my drift.  Sometimes we're so sophisticated, we overlook the obvious.  There's definitely strength in numbers - so instead of criticizing, let's activate and actualize!  Let's show that we haven't forgotten what we learned from our ancestors. 

NAACP, Urban League, Rainbow Push, National Action Network, 100 Black Men, Men Who Care, all the Sororities and Fraternities, all the Churches, Mosques, and  Community Based Organizations can coordinate and carve up their various communities into sectors - from Florida to Washington State; from California to Maine and all across the country, whether we are in the millions, thousands, or just two  - We can come together and hand carry our registered Black voters to their respective polls.  That way we are guaranteeing that they will show up. We can't afford to leave anything to chance.  If you're not an organization, get a neighborhood buddy system or just take your next door neighbor with you - and if you have time, have some coffee or tea later and congratulate yourselves on a job well done.

Churches that have their own vans can work with their congregations - and the vans or buses can either pick up the elderly at their homes, or arrange to have them meet at the church and transport them to their polling places.  Let's not make this rocket science.  It's quite simple. 

GETTING OUT THE VOTE IS GOING TO TAKE ALL OF US - DON'T ASSUME EVERYBODY HAS IT TOGETHER, OR THAT EVERYBODY IS AWARE OF THEIR RIGHTS.

What we do know is this year’s midterm Senate races will be tight—what we don’t know is just how tight. Despite constant spinning in the news cycle, most Americans either don’t know a big election is coming up or don’t care. In the last major midterm of 2010, only 41 percent of voters turned out or 91 million ballots counted—just 30 percent of the population. Are you OK with that?

That said: The African-American vote could play a decisive factor in congressional races in some key states, including places we keep hearing about, like Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana and Arkansas (and in places where you don’t think black folks live but do, like Colorado and Kentucky). Are we really all that into the election (and really into what President Barack Obama is saying about it)? How far could Republican voter-ID and voter-suppression strategies go in keeping polling places as brazenly Caucasian as the cast of Friends?

This week’s installment of The Take turned to Hampton University journalism professor Wayne Dawkins and former GOP congressional candidate Lenny McAllister for context. Dawkins is author of City Son: Andrew W. Cooper’s Impact on Modern-Day Brooklyn, and McAllister is a KDKA and Pittsburgh Cable News network host.

Lenny McAllister (@lennymcallister): Republicans should take the Senate, but there is not the same wave of conservative passion hitting the airwaves and the campaign trail as there was in 2010. Because of that, there is a small, but distinct, opportunity for the Democrats to barely hold on to the U.S. Senate. The GOP has yet to cast aside the political-bogeyman mantra that the party has with non-Republican voters. Will independents break with the GOP in 2014 the same way they did in 2010? That is the question that will be answered in November. As of now, the answer appears to be no.

WD: Sure, black voter participation is normally down in off-cycles, but that could change this year. Look at what happened in Mississippi last spring. Republican Senate incumbent Thad Cochran was locked in a nasty primary fight with a Tea Party candidate. Cochran asked black voters for their votes, making the case that if he lost, Mississippi would lose experience, influence and bacon. The Tea Party candidate appeared too extreme compared to conservative Cochran.

African-American voters engaged and pulled Cochran over the top. Those voters should remind Cochran that they did him a huge solid. If voters of color care about reformed health care, student loans and consumer protection, they can’t afford to sit out this midterm. Otherwise they shouldn’t whine if they feel oppressed.

LM: The black vote plays a big role in this race, as it does in every race. The question is: Will the black electorate finally “get it”? Namely: 1) The black vote can swing every election; 2) The black vote should demand more from elected officials and candidates on a daily basis—not biannual basis; and 3) The black vote should be a “woo-able” electorate—not a voting bloc that remains in one camp without expectations of progress or results for our communities. With that in mind, I don’t know if the black electorate will come out en masse as it did in 2008 or 2012.

WD: If voters of color are a) not paying attention to the voter-ID stories and b) indifferent about those stories, shame on them. The Supreme Court has already rendered verdicts on three cases—restrictive voter-ID laws were upheld in two states but stricken in one—and the court was about to give its opinion regarding the Texas case. Voters of color came out strong in the 2012 presidential election when there was evidence of voter suppression and rich people trying to buy the election. It was a great moment when people fought the power at polls. That energy needs to return for this November’s midterm congressional elections.

LM: I do not call voter validation a “strategy” to “work for Republicans.” There is a reasonable expectation for voter-validation measures to be in place. The question with that issue is how they are implemented, from time frame to methodologies, to ensure that all eligible Americans have the right to vote.

Michelle Obama for Tom Wolf as next Governor of Pennsylvania

Hello All:

You may notice some differences in my Blog over the next few weeks  - where possible, I will be allowing political candidates that I support to share the landscape with other relevant ECLECTICALLY BLACK NEWS and information.

Pennsylvania went overwhelmingly for President Obama in 2012 - despite all the conjecture about it being a "battle ground state."  Now it's time to help make it official by electing TOM WOLF as next governor of Pennsylvania - giving Philly the moxy it needs to get out from under some pretty oppressive oppositional policies that has seen the forced closing of 30 schools; teachers robbed of their insurance; students robbed of the right to a positive educational environment, and so many more issues.  

Below is a card endorsing Tom Wolf, who is wholeheartedly supported by the First Lady (and the President).  If you are in the Philly/PENNA area, make sure you sign it.  If you've not, but have relatives or friends who are, make sure they sign it.  We cannot allow territorial differences to prevent us from winning across the board.

Without the important partnership between the governor and the mayor of the fifth largest city in the US, we will continue to face stagnation - of course Mayor Nutter is doing all he can to prevent that  from being the situation; but things work more smoothly if they are working in concert, as opposed to Nutter always having to operate from damage control. 

Make yourselves a committee of one to get out the vote  - help those who have no transportation get to the polls - contact your fellow church members.  This is serious.

The facts are clear -- Hanabusa can't be trusted to protect Social Security.
Sen. Brian Schatz is fighting to expand Social Security and raise the minimum wage. He will combat inequality with progressive leadership. We don't need another corporate Democrat who folds on the issues that matter most. Let's make sure we keep Brian Schatz in the Senate for Hawai'i and for our families.

June is upon us already - and there is a finite time for registration in many states - so let's get with the program.  If you have any 18 year olds who will be eligible to vote by June, get them registered now BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM THEIR BIRTHDAY GIFTS.  And let them know that they will receive the other half of the gift AFTER THEY HAVE ACTUALLY VOTED.
