EXTRA!!! Philadelphia Mayor Kenney Endorses ELIZABETH WARREN FOR PRESIDENT

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

The US woke up to a game changer this morning - when Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney threw his support behind presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren - taking the focus off of how to make the distinction between 12 erstwhile candidates, and shifting the focus on the support of one major player.  In this age of trickery, lies and deceits from the repugylcons, it's necessary to fine tune, early on, the best person for the job and to defeat the adversary.

It will be interesting to see whether or not others will follow suit.

Kenney Endorses Elizabeth Warren for President
Cites big vision and bold progressive ideas coupled with need for strong and steady leadership in the post-Trump White House

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney today endorsed U. S. Senator Elizabeth Warren for President saying, "Our nation is in crisis. We need strong and steady leadership in the post-Trump White House. We need a new President with a big vision and bold progressive ideas to put power in the hands of working Americans - not the 1% at the top. We need a new President who will bring us together and build an America that works for everyone."

"I am endorsing Senator Warren for President today because she will unite us and put power in the hands of working families. Elizabeth Warren will rebuild our economy for the long-term. She'll tackle the housing and opioid crises, pass Medicare for All and fight for a Green New Deal to protect our children’s futures and save our planet," Kenney said.

“Working families throughout the nation share common problems - whether you live in Philadelphia, Chicago or Des Moines, Iowa. We need a President who will focus on basic issues that impact working families,” he said.

“This is a critical election that will determine our nation's future and our priorities. Elizabeth Warren is a tough and determined leader. She has what it takes to defeat Donald Trump and lead us in the post-Trump era. She will heal our nation and return stability and civility to our national discourse -- while also focusing on the plight of working families in America,” Kenney said.

“Elizabeth Warren and I share a progressive Democratic agenda. She'll focus on equality and equity of opportunity, lasting job creation, serious criminal justice reform, child care and pre-K education -- along with secondary and post-secondary educational improvements and opportunities for all our children," Kenney said.

"It's time we get serious about fixing our problems and putting power in the hands of working families. We need Elizabeth Warren in the White House,” Kenney said.

Commenting on Mayor Kenney's endorsement, Sen. Warren said, "I’m honored to have Mayor Kenney’s support. He’s been a champion for working families in Philadelphia. With the Mayor’s support, we can win in 2020 and make the big structural change we need so our government, our economy, and our country works for every person, not just the wealthy and well-connected."

Marianne Williamson passes the litmus test as a viable presidential candidate

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

I recently received a poll asking whether Marianne Williamson should drop out of the race - and I marked NO!

I know that many of us are watching the debates and have been following with interest the two African American Candidates - Cory Booker and Kamala Harris - as well as the two apparent white front runners - Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren.  But the real game changer, as far as I'm concerned, and the one they fear the most, is MARIANNE WILLIAMSON -

She is the wild card in this equation, because she has come to make Americans - Black and white - face their own morality.  I've followed this wonderful lady for decades - devoured several of her books; attended her seminars at the LEARNING ANNEX in NYC - interviewed her - and know that she is the genuine article.  So much so that the other candidates are really afraid of her because of the contrast between what they say, and who she is and where she's coming from.

The Polls don't really mean anything to me.  I do my own homework independently.  I know that most Americans talk out of two sides of their faces - one where they pontificate on their christian beliefs; the other where their red necks shine through, or the residual uncle Tom undermines any stand they may make for Black issues is overshadowed by their desperate need to win in a race that is clearly decided on the basis of whether or not they can appear as non-threatening to whites as possible.

10 years ago I posted a piece on how to make sure that we got our 40 acres and a mule in modern day dollars.  And the formula that Marianne Williamson is pretty close to the one that I set forth; which means she did her homework and really set forth what it would take to begin the healing.  Not that dollars alone is going to erase all the trauma; but it does begin to level the playing field.

If I am going to support either of our Black candidates, they have to show as much support and concern for our reparations as they do for everything else.  Concomitantly, we had better be about the business of making sure that we are all fully registered to vote and back the one who is really going to back us.

They want to push Marianne Williamson out of the running.  They are afraid that she will raise bar to the level of proof they don't want to deal with.  If America is, as they profess, truly a humane, christian country - they have to stand for Marianne Williamson's continued participation as a viable candidate for President.

I know the debates are set to weed out the candidates and whittle it down to a more manageable number.  And that we certainly must  do - but I don't want us to shoot ourselves in the foot, or throw out the baby with the bathwater.

SIGN THE PETITION - CITIZENS UNITED HAS TO GO!!!

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

This is the year we have to get it right regardless of who's in the majority - Repuglycons or Democrats - in the interest of making that happen, there are several key petitions that are being circulated that are pivotal to the overturn of egregious transgressions over the rights of US Citizens.  One of those is to overturn the CITIZENS UNITED law enacted by the "subprime court"   -  (they stopped being "supreme" a long time ago).

Please read and sign the petition - pass it on to your friends and relatives and associates - this is where WE THE PEOPLE can make our voices heard.

STAY BLESSED

Five years ago, our country suffered one of the most damaging blows ever dealt to our democracy, when the Supreme Court handed down the awful Citizens United decision.

Since this devastating decision came down, major corporations, the Koch brothers, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have poured untold millions into races up and down the ballot. As a result, the 2014 midterms turned out to be the most expensive election in history.

That's why Citizens United has got to go. And that's why, for the last 5 years, Democracy for America members across the country have been fighting back.

In 2012, DFA partnered with Senator Bernie Sanders to support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. Nearly 85,000 DFA members added their name to that petition.

Now we're taking the fight directly to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce -- which has flooded politics with dark money in the aftermath of Citizens United -- and we need your help.

On Wednesday, January 21 -- the fifth anniversary of the Citizens United decision -- we're joining more than one hundred organizations from across the country to deliver 5 MILLION signatures to the Chamber's headquarters in Washington, DC.

Together with our allies, we will send a clear message that our democracy can't be bought and that those who try will be exposed and opposed.

Before Wednesday's historic petition delivery, will you help DFA reach 100,000 signatures in support of Sen. Bernie Sanders' constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United? Click here to add your name now.

At Democracy for America, we've made significant progress along with our allies in fighting the corruption of Citizens United:
  • In more than 600 cities and in 16 states, DFA members have helped lead several campaigns to go on the record against Citizens United -- like DFA activist Michelle Sutter's incredible work in California to pass the Overturn Citizens United Act.
  • We've helped successfully elect strong progressives, like Senators Al Franken and Tammy Baldwin, who -- along with 53 other Senators last year -- stood strong in favor of a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
  • Because we need a Democrat in the White House to take back the Supreme Court and reverse Citizens United, with the support of 87.6% of DFA members, we joined with MoveOn to build a movement that can convince Elizabeth Warren to run for president. Today, DFA and MoveOn kicked off the Run Warren Run campaign in New Hampshire, days after opening up operations in Iowa.
With 80% of Americans opposing Citizens United, it's clear that people across the political spectrum are sick of money corrupting politics and want Citizens United to be reversed. On Wednesday, we'll take one big step toward realizing that vision.

Add your name in support of Senator Bernie Sanders' constitutional amendment to repeal Citizens United -- and help DFA reach the 100,000 mark before Wednesday's delivery!

Thank you for fighting back with us.

P.S. We've also got some late-breaking news! Sen. Bernie Sanders will join us on Wednesday at 8pm ET for a DFA Live conference call following Tuesday's State of the Union speech by President Obama. We'll discuss several issues -- including the fight to overturn Citizens United -- and Sen. Sanders will answer your questions live. Want to talk with Bernie? Sign up now for Wednesday’s special DFA Live call with Bernie Sanders.

Rick Weiland for Senate in South Dakota shows how to run a campaign for the people

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

Well, we're getting down to the wire - and my emails (all five of them) have been inundated with messages from all over the candidates throughout the US, as well as locally.  But I came across something that so defines the campaign and the struggle between the greedy fat cats of the repuglycon party and the Democratic party that I had to share it - I hope the video comes through so you'll get as much  kick and an inspiration out of this as I did.

Rick Weiland, Democrat from South Dakota, is running for Senate.  This is his campaign:

“Can you win a seat in the United States Senate by driving around in a minivan, strumming a guitar and singing about the evils of money in politics?”

That’s the opening line of a Huffington Post piece about an insurgent Democrat whose bolt-from-the-blue campaign for U.S. Senate is now the hottest race in the country and could be the tipping point that saves the Senate from GOP control.

Wait, what? Some dude driving a people-powered minivan around the back roads of South Dakota is about to shock the world?

Yep. And get a load of this semi-viral music video he just released. Yes, MUSIC VIDEO. Once you see it, you won’t be able to get his catchy chorus out of your head.

Just click here to watch this Elizabeth Warren Democrat’s unforgettable song -- and try not to be charmed by it (like Rachel Maddow was a few days ago).
That’s Rick Weiland. Name ring a bell?

As Rachel Maddow highlighted on her Thursday show, Democracy for America endorsed Rick waaaaaaaaay back in March when no one outside of South Dakota knew who the heck he was -- and when the establishment didn’t think he had a snowball’s chance in hell. Since March, DFA members have been contacting thousands of voters across South Dakota -- and the polls are now tighter than a tick.

Rick Weiland is an excellent example of why my brother Howard launched the 50 State Strategy ten years ago with the birth of Democracy for America. And that’s why Gov. Dean just announced that Rick is being elevated into the “Dean Dozen” -- DFA’s short list of top priority campaigns.

Because of DFA members like you who got Rick’s back months ago, now he has the momentum to WIN -- and help Elizabeth Warren build the “no one’s bought me” Senate caucus the moment his boots hit the floors of Capitol Hill.

Do you want to elect another Elizabeth Warren Democrat and save the Senate from the grip of the GOP and Mitch McConnell? Then chip in $3 right now to Rick Weiland and let’s get this done.

Thank you for stepping up for Rick. Together, we’re unstoppable.

P.S. Remember that quote at the top of this email -- where the Huffington Post asked if someone can win a U.S. Senate seat by "driving around in a minivan, strumming a guitar and singing about the evils of money in politics?” Let’s make sure the answer is YES! Chip in $3 now to Rick’s people-powered campaign.

He totally sums it up in a song.  And what a song!!

I think we can come up with some really great concepts to piggy back off of in order to get the rest of the fence sitters on board vis a vis the other republycon incumbents who are clogging up the democratic process, don't you?  What say you HipHop artists out there?  Can you write something without using profanity or the "b" or "n" words to engage your peers?  You have three weeks and counting.
