Summer seems to have wizzed by us - we're in August already! New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are rocking down to the last minutest as we wind out the summer. New York has HARLEM WEEK, Philadelphia has SANKOFA FESTIVAL, THE WIZ IN THE HOOD, AND And this is now the second week of HARLEM WEEK - for those of you who come from another planet, Harlem Week is an annual event we celebrate in Harlem USA, founded by brother Lloyd Williams and others, to celebrate the great things that happen in Harlem. It started out as a week, but because there so many more things than could be encompassed in one short week, it expanded to two weeks, and is now a month-long celebration of events, workshops, forums, award ceremonies - all celebrating Harlem! So if you haven't done so already, it's time to hit the streets and check out what's going on. And there's a lot to do, see, and partake of. This calendar will give you some indication of what you're in for:
As you can see from the headlines, this is a two-part event alert! there's simply too much to be included in one blog posting. Harlem Week alone is already a blog and a half. So when you add and Philadelphia, it's incredible. You just can't take it all in. It has to be done in two parts or you'll be totally overwhelmed and find your self running around the tri-state area trying to keep up. Which, by the way, is not a bad idea.
