Hello All:
Well, we're in the last few official days of BLACK HISTORY MONTH, and there are nearly back to back events between now and the 28th. So get ready for the whirlwind!
But before I start talking about Black History, let's talk about some contemporary, epoch-making history in real time - BLACK PANTHER the Movie has completely changed the way we see each other, Africa and what we can be, do, have. Fittingly launched during Black History Month, this movie has made box office history, with brothers and sisters lining up around the block to be the first to see this creative tour-de-force of Africa as it could and should be - and if we play our cards right, will be!! If life imitates art, this can be the inspiration for a new African lifestyle. For those of us from the Black and Proud era, we have been re-inspired to don our wonderful African and Afrocentric clothing in honor of the theme of the nearly all-Black cast. What an INSPIRATION! These past few weeks we've all been transported to and become citizens of WAKANDA.
No matter what else is on your agenda, a visit to WAKANDA is an absolute must. You don't need a passport because you're all citizens. Check in at your local theatres - notice I put it in plural - because they're likely to be sold out - for schedules and prepare to be transported. I plan to go back and check out the 3-D version. What a ride! A thrill a minute - and eye popping African clothing based on the finest in traditional dress. Make sure you give full credit to the writers directors, designers, and the entire crew! And of course the entire cast. They have done us proud. History in the making, unfolding right before our eyes, in real time. It was exciting from beginning to end. WAKANDA Forever!!

Why Black History Month Matters?
Black History Matters | Don John | TEDxSouthampton

Black History Month is one way we as a nation can commit to the study and celebration of a history of change. A history of freedom, equality, and justice denied. A history of oppression and opportunity. A history of contradictions and compromise. A history of the pursuit of the American dream. A history of this American dream deferred. This history seems to embody the American spirit and power that Margaret Meade famously stated in these words: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
