Well, it's that time again!  

 

ACANA FEST IS BACK AND AS BIG AS EVER!

Celebrating its 16th Anniversary , the Annual African Cultural Alliance of North America, African Festival is ready to go1  But the big question is:  ARE YOU READY?? Sunday, August 4, 2024 - right after church, come out in your best African/Afrocentric Attire, and be entertained, regaled, and interactive with brothers and sisters from Africa who are now your next door neighbors!  


Thanks to Founder Voffee Jabateh, Stan Straughter and Jannie Blackwell- who are  both members of the board and major advocates for Black American and American Africans to get together and celebrate their heritage. 

Gates open at 2:00PM and close 8:00PM - regaled with music, dancing, fun, laughter - and if you have a love for African jewelry, clothing, food, dancing and celebrate their 16th Anniversary.  




 

Note: The new location is at Cherry Street Pier at Penn's Landing (121 N. Columbus Blvd) the event celebrates the African Diaspora. Featured a diverse line up of African music performers, unique African crafts and clothing.  Food is not to be missed!  And you can let the rhythm flow through you!  

 

Among the artists are : Awilo Longomba - Congolese musician, and Liberia's JZyNO, a rising Afrobeat artist known for his dynamic sound and infections rhythms, including  "Butta My Bread." "KUU KUU," "KPAN KPAN ME," and more.   Also featured will be Tunde Success, Nigerian mastr of the talking drum, Wazumbians, a Ghanian music group; Philadelphia's own Sharon Katz & The Peace Train, and Camden based Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble.   

 

Every year ACANA FEST grows more and more in popularity, with participants coming the tri-state area, as well as from all over Africa and the Caribbean.  Philadelphia's population is 68% Black - African American, African Caribbean, and African. In fact the Greater Philadelphia Region boasts over 120,000 immigrants from 35 different countries, with Nigeria, Liberia, Ethiopia and Ghana have the largest number.  

Bring yourself, your friends and family and your enthusiasm - because Sunday, August 4, 2024 Philadelphia is going to be lit and live!!
