I'm Livid - the Liar in Chief's Menial's Insult to Haitian Brothers and Sisters!

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson
Hello All!

I'm Livid - the Liar in Chief's Menial's Insult to Haitian Brothers and Sisters!

By now, most of us have heard the crap about our Haitian brothers and sisters spewed forth from the liar in chief.
I am even more livid because from 1968 to 1969 I lived in Haiti Cherie - with my then two year old daughter.
It was during the reign of Papa Doc Duvalier.  Katherine Dunham had expatriated from the US
and had been living there for years.  I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting her there, as well as
Papa Doc and his family.  Some called him a tyrant.  I call him a protector because he kept the caucasoids
from invading Haiti and doing there what they had done in other Caribbean countries.  He was fully aware
of the horors of slavery in the US, and honored the memories of Dessalinies and the other heroes who
liberated Haiti from the French maurauders.  I literally fell in love with Haiti and still do til this day.
Haitians are our heroes who are now being targeted by the Orange Faced Fool ("OFF" for  short)
to rile his base of throwbacks.  Of course thanks to Haiti, who was self liberated in 1804 - 220 years ago -
the French took a run out powder and sold the properties they had invaded to the US in what was called
the "Louisiana Purchase"  - which included my home state of Oklahoma which was forbidden from
caucasoid settlement for nearly 100 years.    We must never allow them to sully the memories and
heroism of our Haitian brothers and sisters. Whether it's the predator in chief, or the meanstream
mediocre media who will repeat the lies and accusations over and over again so that people begin
to believe it, while pretending they are debunking it  - stand up for Haiti and the truth, just like we
have to do so when it comes to our own history -

You know - I'm so glad I was raised when I was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - because our teachers taught us well.  They made absolutely no mistake when they said that "Education is a non-negotiable item!"  Because of them, I and my peers were taught to see through the machinations of cretins like T-rump.  We learned about Machiavelli, Hitler, Musolini, Andrew Jackson, Andrew Johnson, Woodrow Wilson and all the other racists and oppressors down through the ages.  Later in life, as we matured, and faced our own real life racists in real time, it was relatively easy to see that they played from the same racist handbook.

But now, here we are dealing with the deliberate racist remarks to shock and defy civility and rule of behavior to normalize the violation of people's rights on T-rump's part.  His "try and make me" approach is along the same lines of Hitler's when he came back after his original defeat, to deliberately intimidate and violate the rights of those who he is walking roughshod over.  This deliberate move is designed to continue to curry favor from his racist rightwingnut supporters - those of the back woods, trailer park trash mentality.  He is showing them that he does not respect the Constitution, or the rights - and neither should they.

The fact that he was losing badly in the Debate with Presidential Candidate Vice President Kamala Harris - so he desperately dumped the lie JD Vance was circulating about Haitian Brothers and Sisters eating pets, animals, demonizing them and casting them in the role of barbarism is part of his "try and stop me" attitude that is going well with them.  He can do no wrong in their eyes.  He is their bad ass ersatz hero.  He is a demented doofus who is being aided and abetted by dark money that has no limits - unlike the money that non-profits are embargoed from giving.   These pariahs dig deep into their pockets because they are determined to be part of the overthrow of the government.

When I was a freshman at Hampton Institute (now University) we were required to read a book entitled "THE AUTHORITARIAN PERSONALITY."   We studied the mentalities of Hitler, Musolini, and others of their ilk who, down through the ages, have deliberately and consistently abused, defiled, insulted those who were weaker or less intelligent, or more ethical than they are, and forced them to commit acts of oppression against those even weaker than they.

T-RUMP tried to paint a hostile, negative picture of Haitian refugees who are escaping oppression and coming to the US for asylum.

There is a mentality - or a de-mentality that is part and parcel of who these men are.  The sick thing about reading and studying this book is that during that era were living in real time under the mentality of authoritarian personalities.  It was the beginning of the civil rights era.  It was the beginning of the demonstrations.  It was prior to the appointment of Thurgood Marshall as the first Black member of the Supreme Court.

In the 1930s Hitler was building his base of Nazis - who were taught to use violence, intimidation, lies, aggressive destruction of homes, businesses, libraries, and all levels of civility by open and unmitigated assault on innocent people - using guns, fists and other beatdowns to the point that they were intimidated and afraid for taking stands against them.

This evile system is not new. The media is part and parcel complicit in this aggressive stance.  They not only are not exposing the perpetrators, they are spending more time focusing on them than they do condemning them, or calling for cease and desist.  They are part of the problem.  They are not objective - they are co-conspirators. And we, the American citizens are watching this madness in a state of shock - we are sitting at home laughing at what we're seeing instead of being outraged about what's happening to our own brothers and sisters.

J.D. Vance is trying to make Kamala Harris a target for assassination. He said that it is the Democrats fault that T-rump has been the target for assassination but Kamala Harris has not - he is blaming her for causing T-rump to be a target.  His dog whistle might also be to make her a target as well.

THIS IS OUTRAGIOUS!
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!  THIS IS RACIST AND DANGEROUS!

In case you don't get the parallel to what is happening in present day, and that this couldn't possibly happen to Black americans - please disabuse yourself of any such thought.  Because it most certainly could.  T-rump and his menials start with our Haitian brothers and sisters - Haitians who are legal refugees  seeking asylum here in the US, trying to provide for their families.  He starts with them because they are not too familiar with their rights.  They are the threshhold of the beginning of increasing condemnation of Black people.  As it becomes normalized there will be more and more insults and inuendos leveled against "people of color."  In fact, they will see how far they can go each time - pushing the envelope more and more until they reach a place where someone says, "Oh that's just T-rump - you know how he is."  And that's his and Vance's hate speech is no longer reacted to, just something he does.  Another, "Oh, that's just T-rump." And, of course with the minimizing of the T-rump transgressions, the media will make it even more normal, and most Americans will be hoodwinked into thinking it's not that serious.  SMH

In 2015 I wrote about this same situation - it was prior to the T-rump (s)election and ersatz presidency,  Since he was neither elected nor president, I can only assume there was some conspiratorial collusion between him and the subprime court already in place.  I can also only surmise that those who were in the repuglycon party at the time were well paid to go along with T-rump's agenda of evil, since some of the same ones had denounced him prior to the Russian Ai's manipulation of the votes, and the paying off those of the electoral college who were fully well aware of the fact that T-rump did not "win" the election.

Between the defeat of 2020, which thwarted T-rump's megalomaniacal march to dictatorship on January 6, 2021, and the ensuing years when he spent his time trying to figure out a way to divert President Joe Biden's administration from carrying forward the plans to undo the trauma most Americans experienced under the predator in chief.  Kudos to Americans who made sure T-rump lost the election of 2020, ushering in President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

However, most Americans naively thought T-rump would fade into the background.  They also naively thought the committee that investigated the January 6 attempt to overthrow the government would result in the perpetrators - including T-rump - would be brought to justice, incarcerated, and punished for their sins and transgressions.  Most did not realize that over the period of those year  T-rump and his menials were either greasing palms, or making threats of those who were either too greedy, or too intimidated to take principled stands against the ongoing plot to over throw the US government.  It was even more complicated by the snaillike pace the judiciary committee was taking in dealing with the criminality and continued assault on America.  As Dr. King said, Justice delayed is Justice Denied.

Most were not aware of the complicity of the Subprime Court in this usurpation of our rights. However, when they knocked out a key part of our right to vote in 2013, during President Barack Obama's administration, it was clear to me that they were hostile to the President because they were then and are now pure D racists.  The fact that Mitch the "B-tch McConnell refused to consider President Obama's Supreme Court Nominee - Merrick Garland, because as a repuglycon senator who was in the majority, he didn't have to, it was clear that there was the beginning of an onslaught against the Dems and Black people.  Though Obama was re-elected to in 2012, naive and lazy Black voters did not do their job to get out the vote and return the majority he needed to provide and keep promises he had made in 2008.

I do wonder whether our African American brothers and sisters know how serious and sinister these allegations against our Haitian brothers and sisters really are, and how they also are leveled against us as well.  In fact, while they are trying to assassinate the characters of Haitians - who are refugees from tyrants in their own countries and are seeking asylum to protect themselves and families - they are also saying under their breath, or by implication and insinuation, that African Americans and Black people are doing the same as well?  Do you not now realize that this attack on one person of Color = BLACK - is an attack on us all???

In like manner, the divide and conquer tactics they are trying to use to sever us from Kamala Harris is not new.  They are really good in trying to make it look as though what benefits one of us does not accrue to them.  We've been through the divide and conquer tactics before - and yet we still fall for the same okey doke.

We not only have to stand up for our Haitian brothers and sisters and call out the racists for who and what they are, we have to strengthen our base, educate our children, stand with our leaders, and learn how to understand and recognize who and what these perpetrators are, and what kinds of lies, deceit and trickery they are using against us.

To my brothers and sisters of Haiti Cherie - we've got your back!

And, guess what folks:  If the shoe is on the other foot, and we end up electing the jackass in chief back into the white house, there will be no place we can go as we try to escape the racist onslaught that he and his henchmen will unleash against us.  I am going to share with you a paragraph from history during the rise of the Nazis in Germany in 1938:

The violence of Kristallnacht served notice to Jews worldwide that Nazi anti-Semitism was not a temporary predicament and would only intensify. As a result, many Jews began to plan an escape from their native land.

Kristallnacht marked a turning point toward more violent and repressive treatment of Jews by the Nazis. By the end of 1938, Jews were prohibited from schools and most public places in Germany—and conditions only worsened from there.

During World War II, Hitler and the Nazis implemented their so-called “Final Solution” to what they referred to as the “Jewish problem,” and carried out the systematic murder of some 6 million European Jews (along with, by some estimates, 4 million to 6 million non-Jews) in what came to be known as thee Holocaust.

At each appropriate point, substitute  the words "Black", "DEI."  Also realize that the bookburnings and bannings, and the closing of libraries, closing down shops, banning of employment are not only being carried out by the T-rump machine, but Ron Insanity in Floriday, the ersatz governor of Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Saunders, Lousiana (also speaker of the house), and in so many subtle and not so subtle ways.

It is the true indication why we cannot allow ourselves, our families, our associates, our friends,  our people to be neutral, or derelict in their responsibilities to vote DEMOCRAT = BLUE NO MATTER WHO.

America is in the grasp of leviathan.  The news media and T-rump are part of the same club - the media and T-rump are part of the same union. T-rump, like Ronald Reagan, were both lousy actors, but great deviants who were able and willing to use their "celebrity" to hoodwink a gullible society into believing that their fame somehow accrued to some sort of positivity.  It makes me want to puke every time I hear some one trying to sanitize the "gipper" - who increased interest rates, who discontinued service to those who are in mental hospitals; increased interest rates on mortages to 20%, who caused farmers to pour their milk into the soil, and who fired airline traffic controller personnel who were on strike for better wages.

T-rump is playing from his handbook, as well as that of Hitler's!  WE MUST VOTE THIS CRETIN OUT!!  OVER THE WEEKEND T-RUMP CAME UP WITH ANOTHER ERSATZ ATTEMPT ON HIS LIFE - THIS TIME AT HIS GOLF COURSE AT MAR A L- THE PLOT SICKENS AND THICKENS AS IT IS NOW INCUMBENT ON PRESIDENT  BIDEN TO PROVIDE SECURITY FOR SOMEONE WHO WOULD NEVER DO THE SAME FOR HIM IF THE SHOE WAS ON THE OTHER FOOT! HIS MENIAL INCOMPETENT, VANCE, HAS SOMEHOW TRIED TO ASSERT THAT ERSATZ ATTEMPTS AGAINST T-RUMP ARE THE FAULT OF VP HARRIS - WHO "HAS NEVER HAD AN ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT AGAINST HER."  THE SUBTEXT IS THAT HE IS CALLING FOR HER TO BE A TARGET.  A dog whistle for his fanatical trailer park trash followers to do the unthinkable.

PRESIDENT BIDEN TAKE HEED!! - REMEMBER THE NATURE OF THIS CRETIN!

President Biden: Now is the time to issue executive orders that make it a criminal act punishable by a fine of $25,000 and 10 years in prison for anyone who tries to stop fully registered voters from voting, either by closing down ballots, refusing to count or certify the votes, or by any act of intimidation.  President Biden now has the same privilege the subprime court gave ersatz president T-rump - immunity and protection for whatever he does as president.  He has to use it as well -he is doing us a disservice to say that he will not do so - we need him to make bold moves in our behalves  - if he does not, then he will see the repetition of history that took place in Nazi Germany, when the intimidation of Hitler caused them to step back and allow him to ride roughshod over an entire country.  That would be an extreme disservice to KAMALA HARRIS, TIM WALZ AND THE ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

We are in it to win it! And that means the whole enchilada - NOT JUST THE PRESIDENT, BUT THE SENATE,  THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES - IT  REQUIRES TAKING BOLD MOVES AND FIGHTING FIRE WITH FIRE!!  WRITE THAT EXECUTIVE ORDER AND PUT IT INTO ACTION!!  IF THE SUBPRIME COURT TRIES TO STOP IT, IT WILL BE A SIGNAL TO ALL AMERICANS OF HOW UTTERLY CORRUPT THEY ARE AND HOW THEY NO LONGER REPRESENT THE CONSTITUTION OR THE RIGHTS OF AMERICANS.

Haiti's Baby Doc - Jean-Claude Duvalier - Died long before his Death

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

On Mon, Oct 13, 2014 I received an announcement that Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier,  the son of Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier, president of Haiti, had died.    It was authored by the Afrocentricity International.   It took a very adversarial hostile tone in describing both Papa Doc and his son and their very different administrations.

Haitian President For Life Francois Papa Doc Duvalier

Jean-Claude Baby Doc Duvalier - former President of Haiti at age 19

This is my statement in response to the article by Afrocentricity International:

Interesting take on the Duvaliers' reign over Haiti - and a take with which I differ - Of course mine is not from the standpoint of being a Haitian - but from the standpoint of a militant/activist/artist/entertainer who had the privilege of touring Haiti during the time that Papa Doc Duvalier was still living and running the country.  I went to Haiti Cheri in December 1968 and stayed til June 1969 - and I had such a wonderful experience, I actually considered expatriating there.
I also took my daughter, Kira, who was 2 years old at the time.  I was touring at the time with the Ishangi Dancers,  a African/cultural dance troupe.  While in Haiti We met the great Katherine Dunham, who had been living there for quite some time.  She introduced us to Papa Doc Duvalier.   I was surprised to find that he not only spoke English fluently, but that he knew more about Black history than most American Black historians did - and was quite versed in the international impact of the transAtlantic slave trade.

I later learned that he was part of the Negritude Movement, a philosophy on our residual Blackness despite the oppression and brainwashing of whites, which was  originally fostered by Senegalese President Leopold Sedar Senghor, and Guinean President Sekou Toure.  Not only had he rid Haiti of the "mulatto" (light bright, damned near white) elite who had reigned over the darker skinned, African oriented Haitians, but he had instituted programs for the study of African and African American history.  He also elevated the darker skinned Haitians who had been kept in subservient positions to positions of responsibility.  The fact is PAPA DOC DUVALIER WAS MUCH LOVED BY MOST HAITIANS - contrary to what meanstream whites and political adversaries allege.

I just recently pulled this from Wikipedia, which corroborates my ongoing support of Papa Doc (and don't get it twisted - I said "Papa Doc", not Baby Doc:   "Lucky enough to be schooled and literate in a country where few were educated, Duvalier witnessed the political turmoil of his country. The United States occupation of Haiti which began in 1915, left a powerful impression on the young Duvalier. He was also aware of the latent political power of the poor black majority and their resentment against the tiny mulatto elite.[7] Duvalier became involved in the négritude movement of Haitian author Dr. Jean Price-Mars. He began an ethnological study of Vodou that later paid enormous political dividends.[7][8] In 1938, Duvalier co-founded the journal Les Griots. In 1939, Duvalier married Simone Ovide, with whom he had four children: Marie Denise, Nicole, Simone and Jean-Claude."

Papa Doc Duvalier was also very fiercely protective of Haiti's borders - and would not allow whites to come in and set up businesses unless they could be headed up, run and staffed by Haitians - a factor that did not set well with the French or the US.  He was fiercely proud of the fact that Haiti was self liberated and, while poor in economics - as a result of French and American embargoes; they were rich in cultural heritage.  I used to go into the homes and see his picture everywhere.  And none of the people in the streets or communities appeared to be afraid of the Tonton - which is what they were affectionately called.

His wife a former nurse,  was very sweet - as wer  his daughters.  But when I met Jean-Claude, and it was clear to see that Jean-Claude was what one in America would have considered a special needs or special ed child.  In fact, Papa Doc stated that he had been deprived of oxygen at birth.  Interestingly enough, Marie Denise Duvalier  who had married one of the officers of the Tonton Macoute -  was clearly as smart as, if not smarter, than her dad, and could have easily run the county upon his demise.  However, because of residual African traditions of leadership being passed on to the son, this was not to be.  Also interesting is that no one talks about what happened to the rest of Papa Doc's family - where are they now???
Now as to Papa Doc's reign of terror - or alleged reign of terror - I was there for 6 months - not an entire life time, but enough to observe whether that was actually happening during his administration.  I moved about freely.  Walked through the village barefooted; fit in with the rest of my Haitian brothers and sisters - to the extent possible.   I went to the Mahogany Mart; I watched the drummer Ti RoRo in the park.  I participated with the RaRa band on Christmas morning that went through and pulled people out of their homes in an impromptu parade that went throughout the village.

There were many references to Papa Doc fostering Voodoo (or Voudu) in Haiti - which, by the way, was the residual African rituals that had been kept alive there for centuries.  It was made to look as if he had suddenly resurrected it - probably because the Catholics had tried to subjugate Haitians to their religious beliefs.  However, one had but to sit on the porch at night and hear drumbeats all over - throughout the mountains to know that Haitian spiritual beliefs in the Loas and the Divine Horsemen had never left.  I personally walked through fire during my Dumbalawado initiation.

I had gotten so fully into the Haitian culture during my stay that I rode side saddle on a donkey from Kentscoff to the food mart.  I learned how to carry heavy loads on my head using a dougla (?) balancing a basket so my hands were free to do other things.  I rode up to the Citadel in a rickety Peugeot, and stayed there for a week - I could see the world from there.  No doubt that was how they defeated Napoleon's army - they saw them coming a mile off.

And the only time I encountered the TonTon Macoute was when they shut down the borders because of a threatened invasion from Trinidad; and when a white woman at the airport tried to sneak Haitian treasures out of the country without paying the appropriate duty.  When she refused, they informed her that she was going to be held in jail until she paid the duty.  Redfaced she came up with the money immediately.

I stayed in Petionville - in a small house we rented while we were there - the electricity would go on and off depending on what was happening with the generator.  We cooked over coals in the kitchen; bought food in the market - and ate everything natural, the way it grew from the ground or the trees.  I even tried my hand at washing clothes on the rocks, the way the Haitian ladies did.  They got a big kick out of me trying this - I was the community  joke!  But it was all in fun. I spoke just enough French to learn and understand Creole, and was able to carry on a pretty decent conversation.
While that does not equate to an entire lifetime, it does equate to a great experience in Haiti.  In fact, it was not until Papa Doc died, and Baby Doc was allowed to take over that you really saw any problems.  His dad never intended for him to run the country, which is why he had declared himself president for life.  But ill health undermined that possibility.

Additionally one of the daughters had married someone the father did not approve of, so without a real succession plan in place; and following an antiquated right of succession protocol, Haiti ended up with a President who was mentally retarded.

The wedding that took place with Michele Bennett, was more a matter of manipulation to get their hands on the country's money than any thing else - it cost the country millions - most of which went into her family's pockets.  While the allegations that Papa Doc had appropriated funds was blatantly untrue - most of the funds were used to set up schools, a TV station and to try and improve roads, under Papa Doc - but because the foreign contractors would come in and bring their own crew, he with held funds until and unless Haitians were also trained to participate as well.  When Baby Doc, at 19, and already mentally challenged, became the new president - it was clear he had no means of discernment, was easily manipulated and could be flattered into doing things that otherwise most leaders would not fall prey to.

Also note, it was the first time I ever heard of Haitians leaving Haiti en masse, almost immediately  after Baby Doc and the light bright wife he married so her family can rob the country blind.  Things deteriorated rapidly as the monies were shifted from the needs of the people to the greed of the new "President" and his wife.

Baby Doc's "escape" to France, and alleged living a life of luxury was also a hoax - and belies the fact that there were photos of him doing work as a menial gardener. The country has tried to make a scape goat out of a diminished capacity person who was not fit to serve as a leader.  The sad fact is that Haitians allowed the debacle that was the presidency under Duvalier to continue for more than 15 years!  This was unconsciounable!  It took the $2 million wedding to be the straw that broke the camel's back!  Also telling was the fact that the "Regan administration was friendly towards Baby Doc."  No doubt because he was no threat to anything in the US, and his very image and comportment was more in line with that of a buffoon than than of a Black leader that any one would take seriously.  He was the exact opposite of his father in every way - much the same as Clarence Thomas is the exact opposite of Thurgood Marshall.  Baby Doc would be kind of non threatening Negro Regan would support.

Clearly, when Aristede became president, and Haiti began to rise again, the Bush Administration feared the example of a true Black leader and the marking of the 200th anniversary Haiti's self liberation, would spark even more self pride among Blacks in the US and continue to foster the solidarity that was beginning to happen between Africa, Haiti, the Caribbean and African Americans. This is why Bush had him forcibly removed from his office - under the B.S. guise of "protecting" him.  As far as Martelly is concerned - once again, Haiti had the opportunity to elect Wyclef Jean, who loved Haiti, and would have made a great president; but they blew it because of some bogus rule no doubt concocted to prevent him from running for office.   - He would have done far better for the country.

Again, from the period of time I spent there, I learned a lot, but not everything about Haiti - enough to know that I will always love it and the Haitian people.  Six months is a pretty good window for observation.  I have the utmost respect for the fact that Papa Doc was more than aware of what whites could do to ruin his country - he had already seen it in the US, the Virgin Islands and other surrounding countries. He was also well aware that the US and France hated Haiti because they had liberated themselves.  There were quizzlings among his people who would have sold him out for a nickel in order to get their hands on the money those governments were offering for his assassination - which is why his own police/army TonTon were so hated among the whites - they were as precise and accurate as Dessalines and L'Overture!    Make no mistake about it.
My brief experiences in Haiti, inspired several of my friends decided to go vacation there,  as opposed to the usual Caribbean spots, and they were pleasantly surprised.  In fact, until Papa Doc's death, several of us went back and forth.  It was after Baby Doc really lost it that they had to forcibly remove Katherine Dunham from Haiti for her own safety - she did not want to leave.  But by that time things had gotten out of control.

In fact, I had the privilege of interviewing Ms. Dunham after she returned to the US.  She was saddened by the fact that they were not able to rise above tradition and elect a president who would have either followed in Papa Doc's footsteps, or taken the country in another direction.  We both knew that the country under Baby Doc was doomed.  She never returned, but she always loved Haiti.

On the plus side, Haiti has always had the capacity to reinvent herself - I just hope that she has not forgotten how to do so.  I also hope that this kind of mis information does not continue to be passed on.  There is a decided difference between the two Duvaliers.  And only someone who was in support of Haiti being overrun by white missionaries would see Papa Doc as being a terrorist against his own people.  I saw too many times when he and the people interacted in a positive manner to allow this kind of irresponsible reportage to go unchallenged - they adored Papa Doc - hated Baby Doc.

My understanding is that Baby Doc allegedly came back to Haiti to run for president again, was arrested, and then later "acquitted" for his crimes.  However, the 25 years that had elapsed, and the tragedies that had ensued since his exile had obviously softened some of the attitudes toward him.  In the three years since his return, he lived pretty much as a celebrity and a hero prior to his death on October 4, 2014.  With still so many issues unresolved - the renovation of Haitian homes, Aristede's continued contribution to his country despite the hostilities on Martelly's part; the mystery of what's happened to the millions of dollars in funds raised internationally to help rebuild Haiti, and help those who were victims of the 2010 earthquake - Haiti's focus must be on it's future and not the vilification of people who had little, if anything, to do with more than 25 years of turmoil.
I truly hope Baby Doc rests in peace.

The Death of Jean-Claude (“Baby Doc”) Duvalier
                                            by Afrocentricity Intenational
"On Sunday, October 5, 2014, Former President for life, Jean-Claude Duvalier, also known as “Baby Doc,” died of an apparent heart attack. He was 63.

Afrocentricity International
neither mourns nor celebrates his death. Instead, we see his death as an opportunity to take stock of the legacy his reign has left behind, as well as an opportunity to challenge the current government to live up to its obligation to uphold human rights in Haiti and ensure justice for the Haitian people.

Jean-Claude Duvalier was just 19 when, in 1971, he took over the presidency after the death of his father, Francois “Papa Doc” Duvalier. Initial hopes that Jean-Claude Duvalier would depart from the brutal reign of his father were quickly dashed as he continued the authoritarian rule underpinned by the murderous secret police, the Tontons Macoutes. It is estimated that between 20,000 to 30,000 Haitians were killed by this secret paramilitary force during the reign of both father and son. Jean-Claude Duvalier’s rule was marred by ubiquitous corruption and human rights abuses that prompted more than 100,000 Haitians to flee the country. For a country of about 11 million, it is currently estimated that 1 million Haitians live abroad, due largely to the brutality and legacy of the Duvalier governments.
As the president of the so-called poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, Jean-Claude Duvalier lived lavishly while in function. His wedding in 1980 is estimated to have cost 5 million dollars, news of which trickled down to the masses and was one of the seeds of his eventual downfall. Upon his exile in 1986, Jean-Claude Duvalier held $200 million to $500 million in foreign bank accounts, and was living a luxurious life in France. The 29- year rule of the Duvaliers failed to build and maintain a workable infrastructure and establish institutional governmental norms that would facilitate a state apparatus to address the needs of the people. Rather Jean Claude Duvalier’s rule led to a nation operated by NGOs. By 2010 several sources have estimated Haiti to have over 10,000 NGOs (second only to Afghanistan).

Jean-Claude Duvalier returned to Haiti soon after the earthquake of 2010. He claimed to have returned as a gesture of reconciliation and solidarity with the nation. Afrocentricity International, however, believes words of reconciliation and solidarity are empty gestures without true justice. Since his return, Duvalier has faced numerous sham court proceedings meant to quell calls for reparation and justice by the thousands of people tortured and whose family members were killed under his rule. He was often spotted at some of Port-au-Prince’s

most posh restaurants or at the homes of Haiti’s economic elite. The current government of Michel “Sweet Mickey” Martelly has populated his government with Duvalier supporters while Martelly himself held company frequently with the former dictator. The tacit, and not so subtle message, was that Duvalier had the support of the current government while enjoying the comfortable life he was accustomed to when he was head of state.

In stark contrast to the support the murderous Duvalier has received from the State, former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide - a man who has dedicated his life to people of Haiti, and is currently working to establish a medical school in Haiti - is under constant threat of legal prosecution on false charges from the Martelly government. His detailed security force, a service provided to all former presidents, has mysteriously disappeared, setting the ground for what many believe is a possible assassination attempt. In response, hundreds of people have surrounded Aristide’s house saying, in effect, “We will protect Aristide if the state fails to do its job.” The truth is that Martelly and his minions are fearful of what Aristide and his Lavalas party represent, as they are keenly aware that Lavalas is still a political force to contend with in Haiti. Indeed, Martelly was elected president through a US supported process, where the majority of the voting public boycotted because Lavalas and its political candidates were barred from participation.

As Afrocentricity International reflects upon the death of Jean-Claude Duvalier, let us thus not lose sight of the battle that our brothers and sisters in Haiti are still fighting against the forces of Western Hegemony. Afrocentricity International is therefore urging all of its international chapters on every continent to mark the death of Jean Claude Duvalier as the turning of a page in the battle against western hegemony and corrupt African leadership. The Duvaliers have gone the way of Mobutu Sese Seko or Félix Houphouët-Boigny, heads of states who left little behind but memories of oppression. We therefore stand firmly and ask the Haitian people to continue to support justice, freedom, peace, and Maat! Herekh! Herekh! Unity is our Aim, Victory is our Destiny!"

As I said, this is their reportage, which I've refuted in the previous statement.

Gil Scott-Heron and other anti-apartheid artists unite to Liberate Mandela

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:
Just went on a Gil Scott-Heron Binge and listened to 49 selections of his work - what a great trip - I forgot how erudite my brother/friend/classmate really was, and how prophetic too.

Traditionally speaking, in Africa, Griots usually talk about the past - they recount all of our history, the history of the village, the kings, their conquests, etc.  - their memories go back centuries.  Gil was definitely much more than a Griot - because he also could see where we were headed.  He could look at where we are currently and put the finger on the pulse in such a way that it became palpable for others as well.   For example, he did a piece called "We Almost Lost Detroit," way before Detroit's declaration of "bankruptcy."  His piece on "the Nation's Capitol, Washington DC" is still relevant today - actually even moreso.

Intermixed with his 49 pieces (Youtube selections) were some great pieces of work by other artists on President Mandela and South Africa that I wanted to share with you.  I think, given the fact that we are honoring the memory of the great Nelson Mandela, it's important to note that his liberation was an effort that took decades, sacrifices of lives, and people having to escape South Africa to avoid persecution.  Many went to Kenya, Tanzania, and other countries, where they received assistance to be able to go back and fight again.  Many others had to leave the country entirely, some came to the US; many were students at Lincoln University, who had an entire division for students of Non-independent African nations, which included South Africa, Southwest Africa (Namibia), Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), Angola, Mozambique, the Congo, Basutoland (Lesotho), and other countries tangential to South Africa, and therefore, in very real measure, under her oppression as well.

It may well have been from these classmates that Gil first became aware of the horrors in South Africa.  Goodness knows we spent many a day talking about how to liberate South Africans and to take back the land during our Lincoln U days.   We even went to the UN to protest Ian Smith's Unilateral Declaration of Independence, an effort to keep Rhodesia white and continue oppressing the Black people.  (that's another story for another day)  Most of my classmates returned home to continue the fight to liberate their country, while others became part of the United Nations, and began working from that standpoint to dismantle the heinous regime.

So, when the meanstream media tries to "whitewash" the participation and culpability of the US, Great Britain and other countries in keeping Mandela incarcerated; or tries to take credit for his liberation, these will serve to set the record straight.  To the US's credit, after having finally seen the handwriting on the wall, they did come through and support the boycott  of South Africa, which served, finally, to topple the apartheid regime. Overturning Reagan's veto was an act of defiance, and definitely has to be given credit for spelling the deathknell in apartheid.

Hope you can listen to, and enjoy these pieces I selected for you.  If not, you can definitely log on to Youtube - Gil Scott-Heron/Johannesburg - it's a great way to spend an evening.

Not long after Band Aid and We Are The World focused musical attention on poverty and famine, a collection of artists took a similar approach in the struggle against apartheid. The initiator was Steven van Zandt - erstwhile guitarist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band - who whipped up dozens of musicians to work on the project. They included Peter Gabriel, members of U2, Springsteen himself, Hall and Oates, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Run DMC, Lou Reed, Jackson Browne and Keith Richards. Van Zandt wrote and produced the song and it reached the top 40 in several European nations, though not in the US.

Sun City is a large casino resort in the north-west of South Africa. During the apartheid years it was located in 'independent' state of Bophuthatswana, a phoney political entity that enabled white South Africans to visit a casino, gamble and attend strip shows, even though these activities were illegal within South Africa itself. The United Nations placed a cultural ban on artists touring or performing in South Africa - however many notable American and European acts ignored this and received large sums to perform at Sun City's massive auditorium. Amongst those to defy the ban included Linda Ronstadt, Queen, Laura Branigan, Rod Stewart, Julio Iglesias - and, ironically, black singers like Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick and Boney M. As a result, Van Zandt's song continually insists that "I ain't gonna play Sun City":

Twenty-three million can't vote 'cause they're black
We're stabbing our brothers and sisters in the back
I wanna say I, I, I ain't gonna play Sun City
I, I, I ain't gonna play Sun City

Boputhuswana is so far away
But we know it's in South Africa
No matter what they say
You can't buy me, I don't care what you pay
Don't ask me Sun City because I ain't gonna play

Message to White People from Andrew M. Manis: When Are WE Going to Get Over It?

-->
Hello All:
Just received this piece from one of my Lincoln U Classmates, and thought it would be an interesting read and share piece.  It was originally written by Mr. Andrew M. Manis in 2008; but has been re-circulated by the author as a wake up call to his fellow Caucasians.

Subject: Read what a white reporter wrote in a Georgia newspaper VERY INTERESTING, PLEASE READ TO END. "Without Love There Is No Life, Without Life There Is No Love"   This is a MUST read which resonates with at least 90% of the world.  Please, please pass this one on, even if you have to print it and mail it to your "computer challenged" friends and relatives.  Don't forget  your Caucasian friends and "relatives".  Read what a white reporter wrote in a Georgia newspaper. Andrew M. Manis is associate professor of history at Macon State..".John Dawkins

Andrew M. Manis: When Are WE Going to Get Over It?

For much of the last forty years, ever since America "fixed" its race   problem in the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, we white people have been impatient with African Americans who continued to blame race for their difficulties. Often we have heard whites ask, "When are  African Americans finally going to get over it?

Now I want to ask:   "When are we White Americans going to get over our ridiculous obsession  with skin  color?

Recent reports that "Election Spurs Hundreds' of Race Threats, Crimes"  should frighten and infuriate every one of us. Having grown up in "Bombingham," Alabama in the 1960s, I remember overhearing an avalanche of comments about what many white classmates and their parents wanted  to do to John and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King.

Eventually, as you may recall, in all three cases, someone decided to do more than "talk the talk."
Since our recent presidential election, to our eternal shame we are once again hearing the same reprehensible talk I remember from my  boyhood.

We white people have controlled political life in the disunited colonies and United States for some 400 years on this continent.

Conservative whites have been in power 28 of the last 40 years. Even during the eight Clinton years, conservatives in Congress blocked most of his agenda and pulled him to the right. Yet never in that period did I read any headlines suggesting that anyone was calling for the assassinations of presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, or either of the Bushes.  Criticize them, yes.  Call for their impeachment, perhaps. But there were no bounties on their heads. And even when someone did try to kill Ronald Reagan, the perpetrator was non-political mental case who wanted merely to impress Jody Foster.

But elect a liberal who happens to be Black and we're back in the sixties again. At this point in our history, we should be proud that we've proven what conservatives are always saying -- that in America anything is possible, EVEN electing a Black man as president.   But instead we now hear that school children from Maine to California are talking about wanting to "assassinate   Obama."

Fighting the urge to throw up, I can only ask, "How long?"  How long before we white people realize we can't make our nation, much less the whole world, look like us?    How long until we white people can - once and for all - get over this hell-conceived preoccupation with skin  color?
How long until we white people get over the demonic conviction that white skin makes us superior?
How long before we white people get over our bitter resentments about being demoted to the status of equality with non-whites?;

How long before we get over our expectations that we should be at the head of the line merely because of our white skin?

How long until we white people end our silence and call out our peers  when they share the latest racist jokes in the privacy of our  white-only conversations?

I believe in free speech, but how long until we white people start making racist loudmouths as socially uncomfortable as we do flag burners?

How long until we white people will stop insisting that blacks exercise personal responsibility, build strong families, educate themselves enough to edit the Harvard Law Review, and work hard enough to become President of the United States, only to threaten to assassinate them when they do?

How long before we start "living out the true meaning" of our creeds, both civil and religious, that all men and women are created equal and that "red and yellow, black and white" all are precious in God's sight?

Until this past November 4 (2008), I didn't believe this country would ever  elect an African American to the presidency. I still don't believe I'll live long enough to see us white people get over our racism problem.

But here's my three-point plan:
First, everyday that Barack Obama lives in the White House that Black Slaves Built, I'm going to pray that God (and the Secret Service) will protect him and his family from us white people.

Second, I'm going to report to the FBI any white person I overhear saying, in seriousness or in jest, anything of a threatening nature about President Obama.

Third, I'm going to pray to live long enough to see America surprise the world once again, when white people can "in spirit and in truth" sing of our damnable color prejudice,
  "We HAVE overcome!!"

Fighting the urge to throw up, I can only ask, "How long?"  How long before we white people realize we can't make our nation, much less the whole world, look like us?

How long until we white people can - once and for all - get over this hell-conceived preoccupation with skin color?

VOTE OUT THOSE WHO VOTED AGAINST UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Message to All Americans:

I hope all Americans are watching the evil that walks among us going under the name of the Republican Party. I truly hope you are observing their actions, disdain, disrespect and disregard for Americans.

This latest insult has to do with extending Unemployment Insurance for 2.5 million of Americans. Somehow they have forgotten that these unemployed Americans are unemployed because of their actions, and the illicit behavior of an administration gone mad, under an individual who took a country that was enjoying a surplus, thanks to his predecessor, and turned it into such a crushing deficit, that some means of employment have completely disappeared.

It is only the latest in a series of egregious acts against Americans under this political party. Nixon’s Watergate springs to mind. The undermining of US farmers under the Reagan, not to mention the air traffic controllers issue. And who can forget the horror that was Katrina and the fiddling about that happened as a result of that. Then of course the entire collapse of Wall Street and the discovery that mortgages on American homes were being securitized and sold outside of the country.

Now, because of their deliberate deregulations, favoritism, cronyism, and under the table deals that have led to the most crushing economic downfall since the great depression, hard working Americans - many of whom are in career retraining programs (because their original jobs actually no longer exist)- are being made the pawns by the Republicans who think it okay to add insult to injury by denying them the means to sustain themselves while they try to get their lives back.

I hope you remember who these people are when it comes time to vote, which is coming up in less than 194 days. I hope you remember that President Obama is working to keep rectify the wrongs these miscreants have caused. I hope when you go to the polls you make sure that those individuals who thought it interesting, okay and amusing to filibuster over the lives of millions of America, never, ever again walk the halls of Congress.

I hope you exercise your right as Americans and vote them out of office, and replace them with people who will act in your best interest, not their egos. VOTE THEM OUT!

The tragedy is that these people have sullied the party that was once the pride of President Lincoln and America. As they say in the movie, any resemblance between them and the original party is purely coincidental, I.e. in name only. IT’S TIME TO VOTE THEM OUT!!

While America is a two-party country, we should never ever have a situation whereby a party that constantly, continuously and consistently cause stress, pain, and debilitating poverty for their fellow citizens, while they sit around and thumb their noses at them. They should not be allowed to get a pass. IT’S TIME TO VOTE THEM OUT!!!

Time to vote in people who represent us, and then make sure they do what we need them to do. It is also time to support those who are working hard for us, and make sure they have the backing they need from us.

We deserve to have this country work for all of us, but there are some of us who have decided otherwise. They are sitting in the seats in Congress that could and should be occupied by individuals who really are there to help America and Americans be greater, and to realize their highest and best. LET’S VOTE THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT AMERICANS AND THEIR WELL BEINGS IN; AND VOTE THOSE WHO OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO REGARD FOR US OUT.

In the meantime, I strongly suggest you contact your Congressman or Congresswoman and let them know that you are mad as hell and you’re not going to take this any more. Let your voice be heard today, and your vote be felt tomorrow.
