GDW EVENT ALERT: JUNETEENTH 2021 - SOMETHING GREAT TO CELEBRATE!

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson

As we get closer to Juneteenth - Saturday, June 19, 2021, the excitement is mounting.  There are so many activities and festivities planned this year - doubling up on the fact that we were not able to be together in 2020, and aided by the fact that the US Senate just voted unanimously to make Juneteenth a national holiday - the full ratification is awaiting a vote from the house - SO NO ONE HAS A REASON TO NOT CELEBRATE, REJOICE AND MAKE THE MOST OF THIS JOYOUS OCCASION!

Be there for the Juneteenth Festival in Malcolm X Park 5100 PINE STREET - PHILADELPHIA

As many know, JUNETEENTH is already a holiday in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia in particular and is widely celebrated from the beginning of June up to the actual date of June 19th.
Philadelphia kicked off Juneteenth 2021 on June 7th 2021 at City Hal, with speakers and celebrities and political figures gathering to recognize the importance of the day and it's meaning to Black people worldwide.

PHILADELPHIA IS ONCE AGAIN PULLING OUT ALL THE STOPS TO CELEBRATE JUNETEENTH. And a great deal of gratitude has to go to the JUNETEENTH FAMILY, under the leadership of brother Kofi Asante,  sister Tamara Staley,  Starlene Bey, and other dedicated members of the Philadelphia Juneteenth Family; as well as Ron Brown who heads up Juneteenth Philadelphia -  who have worked tirelessly to make this one of the most spectacular celebrations ever!  Come out and catch the spirit - bring your family, friends, children and your soul.

In keeping with the good news, ICYMI:

The Senate has unanimously passed a bill to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday!!!

a city street filled with traffic surrounded by tall buildings© Provided by NBC News

Juneteenth, which takes place annually on June 19, marks the true end of slavery in the United States. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union Army General Gordon Granger proclaimed freedom from slavery in the state of Texas, nearly two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday has been celebrated in 47 states and the District of Columbia, but now, if passed through the Senate, will be recognized on a national level.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., made the motion to pass the legislation, and no other senator objected. Earlier on Tuesday, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. — who blocked the bill from passing last year — dropped his objection to the holiday.

"While it still seems strange that having taxpayers provide federal employees paid time off is now required to celebrate the end of slavery, it is clear that there is no appetite in Congress to further discuss the matter," Johnson said in a press release. "Therefore, I do not intend to object."

The bill now goes to the House. If it passes, Juneteenth will become the 11th federal holiday. Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Sheila Jackson, both of Texas, first proposed the bill last summer amid national protests over the murder of George Floyd, but it did not garner enough support.

Cornyn tweeted his response to the passing of the bill, writing: "Happy that my bill to recognize Juneteenth as a national holiday just passed in the Senate. It has been a state holiday in Texas for more than 40 years. Now more than ever, we need to learn from our history and continue to form a more perfect union."

Senate unanimously passes bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday - now let's get the FOR THE PEOPLE  LEGISLATION PASSED

Me

MESSAGE FROM BOYCE WATKINS:

Greetings, I hope you're doing well.
I am soooo excited about the kickoff of the 2018 All Black National Convention! The vision for this convention LITERALLY came to me in a dream three years ago. Being a spiritual person who believes in the power of the Universe, I saw the vision as a mandate for me to implement a gathering that would impact the Black community worldwide for the next 300 years. That's where the All Black National Convention was born.
Each year, the convention is stronger and more impactful than the year before. It has become international, with guests from all over the globe (the third person I spoke to came from South Korea to be here). It has become a family reunion for those seeking connections with other like-minded people in our community who also want to build the future. It is an oasis for those seeking a real-life Wakanda. The magic of the convention fills me with a warmth I've rarely known in this life, and your participation means EVERYTHING.
A few things I'd like for you to know about the kickoff for the convention tonight:
1) Leave out early - Philadelphia traffic can be pretty insane, so you might want to give yourself a 20 - 30 minute time cushion. Doors open at 4:30 and we begin promptly at 5 pm EST.   You can view the schedule of events at AllBlackNationalConvention.com.
2) Download a QR code reader to your phone so we can connect digitally. You can simply search for a QR reader in the app store for your provider. This is important for scanning QR codes at the event.
3) The hashtags for the convention to be used on social media is #ABNC and #ABNC2018. Feel free to post any pictures, video or testimonials to social media and use these hashtags to join the online conversation and share your experience with the world. Also, check the hashtag regularly because I am consistently posting updates and information on Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms.
4) To connect with me via text message for convention updates and information, text the word "AllBlack" (one word) to 31996. I can then text you on the fly if anything changes while we're here.
5) For those seeking to view the livestream, you can obtain acccess by joining our study and action group at ABNCDigital.com.
the 2018 All Black National Convention.  It's going to be awesome and we are finalizing all plans to ensure that this is the great ABNC in history.
I wanted to send this note to remind you of a couple of things as we prepare for our big weekend:
6) If you want to bring a loved one and give them a discount, feel free to visit AllBlackNationalConvention.com and use the discount code Philadelphia.  You can also use this code if you'd like to upgrade your ticket.
7) Again, download a QR code reader when you arrive at the convention.  This is how we're going to be able to give you free giveaways.
8) If you have friends or relatives who would like to view the livestream, they can get access within our study group at ABNCDigital.com. The first month is totally free.
NOTE: On Thursday night, Attorney Nichole Compton and  Dr. Boyce Watkins  hosted a Business Development session at The Wyndham Hotel.  All those with VIP All Access passes got in free.  Several business opportunities and connections were developed as a result of the information, with the possibility of even more to come.  Connect with those who attended to get an update of how it went.

Nicole Compton, Esq. and Dr. Boyce Watkins field questions and make suggestions during the VIP Business Session at the Wyndham on Thursday September 27

9) To obtain an upgraded tickets for admission to other VIP workshops,  you can do so at AllBlackNationalConvention.com.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP so we know how many.   You can do so at this link.
10) You can connect with me via text message as well by texting the word Boyce to 31996.  I can send updates that way, and I'll be consistently communicating with you through text, email, video, social media and more.   Please use our hashtag for all pictures, comments and collective discussions.  The hashtags are #ABNC and #ABNC2018.
I'll see you soon and remember to be black, bold and beautiful! See you tonight. Let's go change the world.
Sincerely,
Dr Boyce Watkins
