.ICYMI or were watching Netflix: Social media is trying to distort and destroy Positive Black Images

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson

Hello All

Disgusting cartoon rip off of Black TV series Good Times by Netflix - this is an insult to Black people to present such negative distortions of Black Family Entertainment

Now that I have your attention:

🤬In 2004-05 meanstream media moguls suddenly cancelled all Black positive image TV shows and replaced them with what I call the who- hates-who genre.  Sadly most of us didn’t notice, didn’t blink an eye, day a word.  We have now been saturated with the most negative, distorted, divisive versions of Black culture - inculcating it into our daily interactions with each other to such an extent we automatically expect the worst of each other.  So now meanstream media is doubling down and denigrating some of our most treasured, positive TV shows and inundating them with hate, negativity and disrespect starting with GOOD TIMES  - the 1970s TV show that featured a Black Family that loved and supported each other, despite poverty and other problems. One of the biggest culprits is NETFLIX - who has released a pilot filled with disrespect, children with guns, hypersexualizing young Black girls - !!!

I wonder whether any of these   producers would want to have their own children exposed to these kinds of negative images.  But we can't just blame the producers and writers - we parents and viewers have a share in the responsibility for allowing these programs into our homes, subscribing to the media, and sitting there watching it with our children instead of making sure their viewing is something positive, empowering and creative.  In my article, "How Not To Raise A Vidiot," I taught parents how to pre-screen programs to make sure they were appropriate for their children.  Now, more than ever, we have to make sure our children are not being programmed by negative media.

While it may have appeared to fly low under the radar, CEMOTAP - a Black activist organization  - which means Committee To Eliminate Media Offenses To African People - held an emergency tribunal on this latest insult to Black people, and have issued a call for action from Black people, educators, officials, parents - including cancelling subscriptions to Netflix and consequencing the producers and participants in this gross distortion of Black people.

Where in this depiction do you find the original members of GOOD TIMES?James, Florida, JJ, Thelma, and Michael - THE EVANS FAMILY

HOW DOES THE PHOTO ABOVE COMPARE WITH THIS ORIGINAL CAST OF THE HIT FAMILY ORIENTED COMEDY SHOW "GOOD TIMES?"

No one loves comedy more than Black people - but the kind of degenerate, distorted, disrespectful depiction of our people, culture, family values and race has to stop immediately, if not sooner.  Not only does it harm our children’s self image, it sends signals to others about who we are.

CEMOTAP is asking all Black subscribers to cancel their Netflix subscription; circulate and sign cease and desist petitions, protest producers of Netflix shows.  Provide positive alternative viewing for yourself and your family.  Start watching some of the vintage Black tv shows they still have currency until newer, positive shows are produced.

Share This widely - I work hard to bring you this information!

GDW EVENT ALERT: Memorial Brother Chuck Africa, Urgent Support needed for all Elder POWs

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson

Hello All:

There are so many things going on simultaneously - good and not so good - that I hardly know where to begin.  So I'll start with the good news that CEMOTAP is always on the forefront of whatever affects us as Black People. And that's more than good news - that's a Blessing!
The bad, or not so good news is, that there appears to always be something leveled against us at the hands of the caucasoids and their descendants - who, down through the ages, have managed to keep alive their egregious, heinous racist agenda.  It what should and could have been a positive, progressive, prosperous environment - they're always trying to find a way to throw some ish in the game.
So heads up, y'all - you're needed on the frontline with CEMOTAP - mentally, spiritually, and definitely, physically.
Information is below from the agenda provided to me by Dr. McIntosh, co-founder and leader of CEMOTAP.  There can be no sidelines in a revolution - Especially a Black revolution.  You're involved whether you want to or not, or like it or not - so stand up and step up - the life you save may be your own.

Stay Blessed &
ECLECTICALLY BLACK
Gloria DULAN-Wilson

JOIN US FOR A WEBINAR SUPPORTING 84 YEAR OLD POLITICAL
PRISONER SUNDIATA ACOLI
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2021
@ 7:00pm - 8:30pm (EDT)

Sundiata Acoli is an 84-year-old grandfather, mentor, teacher and artist who has been in prison for more than 48 years. He and Joanne Chesimard (Assata Shakur) were both convicted and sentenced to life in prison (with the possibility of parole) for their role in the tragic shooting on the New Jersey State Turnpike which resulted in the death of New Jersey state trooper, Werner Foerster and Black Panther Party member named Zayd Shakur.
The highly publicized trial and Assata Shakur’s subsequent escape from prison in 1979 have framed Sundiata’s imprisonment as one of the most emotional and passionately debated cases in the history of the state of New Jersey. Though Sundiata has been eligible for parole for more than 25 years his petitions for parole have been summarily denied eight times.
By the grace of God, Sundiata has endured almost five decades of imprisonment in some of the most torturous prisons in America. He has expressed deep remorse and regret and has taken full responsibility for his actions that fateful night almost 50 years ago.
There is so much that this veteran freedom fighter can teach a country that does not seem to be able to move beyond the cycles of protest, retaliation and revenge.

AN EXTREMELY URGENT INTERFAITH CALL FOR PRAYER &
CLERGY SUPPORT FOR HOSPICE
CARE FOR 78 YEAR OLD TERMINALLY ILL ELDER
PRISONER RUSSELL "MAROON" SHOATZ

ADDITIONALLY WE ARE ALSO ASKING FOR CLERGY OF ALL FAITH'S TO ENDORSE AND/OR TO WRITE A LETTER TO
PHILADELPHIA COMMON PLEAS COURT JUDGE KAI SCOTT TO ALLOW RUSSELL TO BE MOVED INTO SUPERVISED
HOSPICE CARE WHERE HE CAN SPEND HIS FINAL DAY'S OF STAGE 4 CANCER WITH FAMILY AND NOT DIE IN PRISON.

Free Maroon Now!  Interfaith Alliance Interest Form
For nearly 50 years, a man of faith by the name of Russell Shoatz has remained behind bars in the Pennsylvania state prison system.

Russell has been imprisoned, incarcerated and caged since the reign of racist terror that former Philadelphia police commissioner,
and later mayor, Frank Rizzo showered upon his constituents. Russell endured 30 years of inhumane solitary confinement,
and even amidst a lifetime of caging, set himself on a clear path of faith and mentorship to people inside and outside of the
prison walls, ourselves included.

When he was released from solitary confinement, after winning a civil suit against the department of corrections, Russell’s
life entered a new phase of trial: his health. Over the past few years, he suffered first from prostate cancer and then was diagnosed
in 2019 with colorectal cancer. He survived 12 rounds of chemotherapy before being approved for surgery to remove his primary
cancerous mass in fall of 2020. In October of 2020, prison guards infected the prisoners of State Correctional Institute Dallas (PA)
with COVID-19 and Russell was placed into lockdown and later diagnosed with the deadly virus. After months of delays, he finally
received his surgery only to find that the cancer had again metastasized. In the spring of 2021, it was confirmed that he has terminal
Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

In conversations since, Russell has expressed that he is at peace with entering the transition from life to death, and his desire to
spend his final days surrounded by family and close friends. With this declaration, his legal team at the Abolitionist Law Center
in Pennsylvania, filed a petition for medical transfer to home hospice care in July. The grounds were that he had met all of the
necessary requirements, including being of model behavior, being unable to walk without the use of a wheelchair or other medical
assistance devices, and that a prison environment cannot and will not support proper care for Russell and his rapidly deteriorating health.

The hearing was scheduled for August 3rd, 2021 and after receiving all arguments and letters in support of Russell’s medical transfer,
the hearing was called into recess for a week. On August 12th, 2021, Judge Kai Scott declared that she believed in redemption, that she
believed that every person had a right to die in comfort, surrounded by loved ones, but that she was denying the release of Russell,
feeling that this 78 year old elder, who has mentored hundreds, inspired thousands with this his spirit, faith, strength and love, and is
now suffering greatly under the weight of the disease that will claim his life, is a threat to the community.

And thus, we ask you today for your support. Please join us as we pray for Russell every Monday, Thursday and rain-day. We ask that
you consider how you can support our caged elders and their families. We ask you to join an alliance of other faith leaders, committing
to speak out to your congregations about the story of Russell Shoatz. It is not unique, it is the story of many, but it is a story that is unfolding NOW.

We invite you to join us in conversation and in action. We would like to learn about what community work is important to you, your faith
and your congregation. We would also like to learn how you and your congregation can support Russell, a father, a son, an elder and a man of
faith, in devotion, love, and service to God.

Is Marxism Relevant? Some Uses and Misuses - by David ...

Parole hearing postponed.
Support letters still needed!

On September 21, the New York State Parole Board postponed David's parole hearing for one month. We anticipate at this point that his next hearing will take place sometime in October.
Thanks to your efforts, the packet that David's lawyer submitted to the Parole Board contains hundreds of support letters, many of them heartfelt testimony from people who have come to know him over the past 40 years, during his incarceration. And many also from people who don't know David, but have learned about him and are moved by a sense of mercy and justice. Each of these letters is so important and we thank you so much.
Although there is much we don't yet know, we expect David's lawyers should be able to file a supplement to that packet. A continued show of support for David's parole is important.
  • If you haven't yet, please consider writing a letter to show your support for his parole.
  • If you have -- thank you! And, consider asking a friend (yet another one) to write.
Winning clemency was a tremendous achievement and we owe it to all of your efforts and your steadfast support.  We will be keeping you informed as the parole process moves ahead.

For more information on David, the latest news, guidelines for writing and submitting letters of support, and to subscribe, please visit www.friendsofdavidgilbert.org.
