By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

I received this info from Tamara Staley that I thought you'd be interested in.  The South is a very elegant club on Broad Street that has jazz supper shows - I first came across it when Bobbi Humphrey was featured artist there.

SOUTH UPCOMING SHOW
Our Band is Performing on the French Quarter V Shayne Frederick listing. He is the host so they keep the same advertisement on their website.

Reservations can be made directly from South Kitchen website i.e.
The contact number is 215-600-0220 They prefer you book online. Be sure to choose the Jazz Club not the Dinner Room. Showtime is 7pm & 9pm.
Book 30 minutes prior to the show so they seat you prior to the show, because it can get crowded.

Coming Up! Harlem Singer-Songwriter Lili Anel & Soul Train Award-Winner Nicole Henry

Dear SOUTH Guests!

We encountered a mix-up with some of our ticket links,
but have since corrected the issue.
We apologize for the confusion.

We are looking very much forward to welcoming you back to SOUTH!

LIMITED SEATING STILL AVAILABLE!
FRIDAY, JUNE 28 - 7:00PM & 9:30PM
JEFF LORBER
Known for his smooth style, weaving together elements of funk, R&B, rock, and electric jazz, keyboardist Jeff Lorber helped pioneer the post-fusion sound of contemporary jazz.

Emerging on the scene in the late '70s, Lorber quickly established himself as a leader at the forefront of the electric jazz movement, issuing albums with his group the Jeff Lorber Fusion like 1978's "Soft Space" (featuring Chick Corea) and 1977's "Water Sign." Following an extended period as a producer, Lorber returned to regular recording in the '90s, and has since balanced his time between solo albums like 2007's "He Had a Hat" and productions with his fusion trio like 2017's Grammy-winning "Prototype."

We're excited to have him back at SOUTH -- and you should not miss it!
Tickets are $37 and available online.

SATURDAY, JUNE 29 - 7:00PM & 9:30PM /
SUNDAY, JUNE 30 - 7:00PM & 9:00PM
LILI ANEL
Lili Anel considers music a calling. As a child, the guitarist and singer-songwriter remembers singing along to her mother's Cuban, jazz and Pop standard albums. Her mother supported Lili's desire to join the church choir and her grandfather's recognition of how much joy singing brought to her served to set her feet firmly on the path of a career in music.

Anel is drawing from Latin, Jazz, Folk, Blues and Pop, creating a musical hybrid just as she is one herself, a New York-born Cuban-African American. In 2018, Anel was a PEW Center for Arts and Heritage Fellowship Nominee. Her most recent record, "In Spirit," was released at the end of December 2018 and is a hand-picked anthology that exemplifies her musical journey from past to present and shows off some of her best work, she says.

The entertainment fee for this show is $15. Buy your ticket directly through our website or the resy app.

Her passionate, soulful voice and heartfelt charisma has earned her a Soul Train Award for “Best Traditional Jazz Performance," and three Top-10 U.S. Billboard jazz albums. THURSDAY, JULY 11 - 7:00PM (SOLD OUT!) & 9:00PM
ART SHERROD JR.
At the age of thirteen Sherrod joined the high school band and had to make a big decision, what instrument should he play? After much deliberation over which instrument might get the most attention of the girls he chose the saxophone. By the time he graduated from high school he had received numerous awards and had been recognized as an All-Area, All Region and All-State Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophonist and was chosen as an alternate to the McDonalds All-American Band.

In 2005, Sherrod released his debut CD "All 4 Love,” which was the vehicle that put him in the spotlight. Since then, he has been given the opportunity to perform, open or co-headline shows with Chuck Loeb, Marion Meadows, Roy Ayres, Natalie Cole, Boney James, Everette Harp, Bob Baldwin, Randy Scott, Noel Webb, Najee, Michael Henderson, Jean Carne, Cuba Gooding & the Main Ingredient and a host of others.

Tickets are $25 and available online.

FRIDAY, JULY 12 /
SATURDAY, JULY 13 - 7:00PM & 9:30PM
VANESSA RUBIN
Revered as both a torchbearer and a storyteller, jazz vocalist Vanessa Rubin possesses a voice hailed for crystalline clarity, hearth-like warmth and playful lioness sass. The Cleveland native brings a wealth of diverse influences to her vocal performance from both the Trinidadian/Caribbean roots of her mother and traditional jazz by way of her Louisiana-born father.

Rubin’s passion for rich musical stories are evidenced throughout her eight albums thus far plus numerous guest appearances. Highlights include the evocative “Voyager II” from the pen of Teri Thornton, “Inside a Silent Tear” written by Blossom Dearie, a refashioned waltz version of John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps” lyricized by New York Voices and an arrangement of “Superwoman” by Stevie Wonder insipired by the Ahmad Jamal recording of “Poinciana.”

So while she has one foot planted in tradition – sticking close to timeless melodies and exquisite vocal forms – Rubin waxes adventurous, embracing stories lesser told while employing lessons of acclaimed storytellers in song such as Carmen McRae, Shirley Horn and Freddy Cole.

The entertainment fee for this show is $20. Buy your ticket directly through our website or the resy app.

At the end of the '90s, Grove developed the persona of Euge Groove, a corruption of his real name, and released his self-titled debut album in May 2000. He followed up with 2002's Play Date, featuring the singles "Slam Dunk" and "Rewind." EVERY SUNDAY,
IT'S BRUNCH TIME AT SOUTH!

Chicken & Waffles, Bottomless Mimosas,
we have got it all -- and more!

And, for all of our seatings in the Jazz Club we will have the fabulous Paula Johns, an accomplished cabaret singer and jazz vocalist who hails from Philadelphia
Johns is often compared to Ella, and some of the great contemporaries of that era, but Paula brings her own distinctive panache to each song she sings…especially the songs from The Great American Songbook.

With a voice like butter, she enjoys a great lyric that tugs at your heartstring, as well as a lyric that’ll make you fall off your seat with laughter. Her passion for the music ignites the emotions of her audiences and allows them to feel the stories that each song tells.
