 This is my first time ever soliciting funds for my self - kind of nervous about it.  But hope you will please contribute and share with your sources and resources.

I want to thank all who have followed my blog, ECLECTICALLY BLACK NEWS over these past 15 years.  The loss of my mobility has been a challenge, but the fact that I could still communicate has made it bearable.  However, now that I no longer have a mobility device, coupled with the fact that my circulation has decreased is a challenge that makes me take time out to say HELP!

Greetings all! Most of you know me - but for those of you who receive this and are not familiar with me, my name is Gloria DULAN-Wilson. I am a combination journalist, blogger, activist, speaker, and ECLECTICALLY BLACK woman who has had the privilege and pleasure of having interviewed and written about some pretty wonderful and dynamic people over the decades that God has blessed me to be here.

I am putting together this GoFundMe in my behalf because I lost my ability to walk nearly 4 years ago during the sequestation of Covid. No, I did not have covid! But I had started to lose my ability to walk without pain, drugs or a cane during the late 2019 - and was undergoing a specialized aquatherapy to restore my ability to walk at a facility called Aquahab in Philadelphia. I was beginning to make progress, however everything shut down during March of 2020, and by April of 2020, I had completely lost my capacity to walk or stand - and was basically bed bound, except for the Mobility Scooter I had purchased to be able to get around. The scooter was a work horse and made it possible to be able to participate in many events subsequent to the pandemic, attend cover stories, and continue with my writing, etc.

However, the scooter "DIED" literally in July. Simultaneously, the nurse practitioner who pays regular visits to chart my progress informed me that my being in a seated position 24 hours a day was causing my muscles, limbs and other parts of my body to atropjhy, blocking circulation, and causing huge lesions on my legs and feet.

It was recommended that I transition from a scooter to a specialized power wheelchair with a built in stand up feature, would made it possible to allow the circulation from my legs back to my heart. It's a specialized device, that may be covered by Medicare and Medicaid, but takes an act of God and Congress to get - even though my primary care physician has declared it a medical necessity. I was also told by the Durable Medical Sales representative that they did not sell these devices, and it would be practically impossible to get one. That turned out to be untrue - however, most of those who deal with medical equipment are trying to shove their outdated devices on us, while they still can, and collect a commission while doing so.

As I began to do research, I found that there are several power standing wheelchairs, that range in price from moderate to monsterous. My health is very important to me. And I would not be the first Black woman to be told that something was impossible, or would take an inordinant amount of time, while others are receiving the benefit of life saving devices.

I am putting together this GoFundMe in hopes that you will assist me in obtaining the Standing Wheelchair so I can save my lower limbs, regain my ability to be of use to the brothers and sisters in my community.

I've been doing quite a bit of research as to who makes the standing Wheelchair, and who has the best features, and have come across the DRACO Standing Wheelchair - which ranges in cost from $9,000 to $13,000 - depending on the vendor. It works indoors and outdoors, and has unique therapeutic features that enhance circulation in my legs and feet.

Most of you who know me know that I generally don't solicit assistance from my friends or relatives; unless it's dire. Well, this has become dire - since I've not been able to leave my home in more than a month, and also because poor circulation generates clots. Additionally, even with my primary physician's medial necessity, I've been informed it may take Medicare/medicaid two to six months before I receive the mobility device. That could basically jeopardize me for an embolism, or other dangers that result with the blockage in the circulatory system. The formal term is Chronic Venous Insufficiency. I've been to Johns Hopkins Hospital, Penn Medicine, Lankenau Hospital and the verdict is that the lack of blood flow from my legs to my heart can generate clots and other dangers.

Three years ago, in October 2021 I had two clots travel up to my veins towards my lungs, but, thanks to the good doctors at Penn medicine, were caught in time and dissolved.

At this juncture, keeping my legs elevated - as some have recommended - is not sufficient, nor are the "compression garments" they prescribe. The blockage is a result of my inability to stand or walk .

Of course, I am always looking out for a miracle and am researching doctors who specialize in healing CVI. And I stay prayed up. But being assisted in standing, and the other therapeutic benefits of the standing wheelchair will be a GodSend.

THANKSGIVING GREETINGS

And as we celebrate this great season

And The Blessings of Gratitude and Thanksgiving

For making it through to keep on living

Today we express our deep appreciation

For joy and love and inspiration

I'm grateful for you and all that I treasure

And it's deeper than any one can measure

Tho the holiday may have started from acts that were hateful

Today everyone can find some reason to be grateful

As we bow our heads and pause to say grace

In our heart we know blessings have nothing to do with race

As long as you're counting your blessings it still means the same

Having and Attitude of Gratitude or Happy ThanksGiving

Every year some one of our politically savvy Black activist leaders will come up with question of whether or not we should be celebrating Thanksgiving.  And this year is no different.  That weird question  reared its ugly head in the guise of a joke, and there was the nervous laughter to open guffaws around the room, which set me thinking:
 "Hmmmm...don't we - individually and collectively - have something to be thankful for in our lives?  Are we now so cynical that even when things go right we keep looking for something bad to happen.  Can we be grateful for another day of life (remember the song, "I just want to celebrate another day of living"?)  Wonder what would happen if we all assumed an attitude of gratitude, as opposed to the overwhelmingly ascerbic, snarky tones we've been imparting as of late?"

Metaphysically speaking - according to the LAWS OF ATTRACTION & ASSUMPTION - you get back what you send out.  If you send out gratitude, you generally attract more blessings and more things to be grateful for.  If you continuously send out complaints, suspicion and negativity, that's what you'll keep getting.  Even as little kids we were taught to say "grace" before eating - a form of being thankful for having food to eat.  I.e. a form of gratitude for being provided for. 

I think we are the only country that actually sets aside an entire day to show our gratitude.  Interestingly enough it was started by Pilgrims who were so grateful for being out from under the thumb of oppressive British rule, for having survived the rigors of a perilous passage to what was then the New World; and for having been befriended by the original Americans (a/k/a Indians - "natives" in caucasian parlance), who showed them how to survive here.  The first Thanksgiving celebrations actually included all the people.  They all sat down and all shared in the bounty.

Now, today, we got let's get the meal done so we can go shop for Black Friday Bargains.  We got family feuds; who hates whom, who's doing what to whom; who cooks better than whom, or who can't cook at all.  It can run the gamut soup to a 25 lb. Turkey, depending on your budget.

I say it's time we put the THANKS back into Thanksgiving, and show our gratitude for loving, being loved; the fact that we are not only blessed to be here another day, but have another day to be blessed and do things differently.  Smile folks, we re-elected the Best President Since Roosevelt! Smile, we don't have to deal with "Mitt-Twit Romney".  Smile - Good things are coming your way now.  You're twice blessed if you have your family and friends around you.  Triple the blessings if they are also loved ones who love you in return.

Smile if you have grandchildren who love and respect you and are well behaved.  Be grateful if you still have all your teeth and can enjoy the good food prepared for this special day.   Let's send up a prayer for those who suffered Hurricane Sandy, as well as gratitude for the help they are receiving so they can rebuild their homes and their lives.  And, yes, you can likewise be grateful if you were spared the tragedy.

If there's something that you don't have, that you want, be grateful that it's on its way; if there's something that you don't want that you have, release it in peace and send it on its way.

We have to learn to celebrate every good thing that happens to us, every accomplishment, every victory not just on Thanksgiving Day, but each time it occurs.  That's one thing I learned from my Japanese friends that I try to practice regularly - celebrate now, so the good can keep coming.

So in answer to my comedic friend, "Yes! We owe it to ourselves to celebrate Thanksgiving.  No matter who we are or where we are - especially we Black people, though - we can look back and see how far we've come, and look forward and see how close we are, and give thanks in advance for smooth roads and bountiful blessings in our lives from this moment on (as long as we do what we are supposed to do, individually and collectively.  The only way we can go from this point on is up.

So have a happy, joyous, wonderful, prosperous, blessed fun filled and loving Thanksgiving - and don't over spend on Black Friday - even though they're calling it Black, make sure you spread some of that Green with the Black merchants and business owners so they'll have something to be thankful for too.
