JUNE IS BLACK PEOPLE MONTH - JUNETEENTH CABARET Saturday June 28, and African NGOMA Drum Festival, Sunday, June 29, 2025

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson

 Hello All!

I've often said - and still maintain - that June is Black People's Month!  We have Black Music Month, Caribbean Heritage Month, Juneteenth, Black Food and Restaurant Month, among other events celebrating our heritage and accomplishments.  All over the US, events heralding our talents and genius are taking place - Jazz, African Music, Black Literature, African Poetry, Theatre, TV - you name it we either did it, or we're doing it - big time.  This year, 2025 we've expanded in so many ways!  The current environment has called upon us to display our talents, as well as our courage, intelligence, ethics, creativity - and we've risen to the occasion from politics to demonstrations, to community development, and educational programs.  This June has been full of activity thus far, and the rest of the year portends to be even moreso.
So mark your calendars and get ready to get out and enjoy your cultural heritage this week end Saturday, June 28 and Sunday June 29th!

Sunday, June 29 is the 2025 Tribute to the African Drum where we honor the drummers that upheld the culture and are now Ancestors. It's began over 20 years ago with the transition of Babatunde Olatunji, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente and has honored local ancestors/drummers like Baba Robert Ibikunle Crowder, Baba Facundo, Baba Greg Peache Jarman, Bobby Artis, Baba Leonard "Doc" Gibbs, and others.

It begins 12noon at Stenton Park, 17th & Courtland Sts. and includes drumming, dancing, spoken word and vendors. Bring your blanket/lawn chairs and instruments for the big community drum circle.

It's a family event with activities for youth and is always a positive vibe with Black folks gathering as ONE! It would be nice if the rest of the diaspora would join us in unity. Come get a cleansing and healing from the drums!
This year, in case of rain it will be held at Imhotep Charter H.SSee message below for the schedule of activities.

Peace & Power!
