In
case you missed it, with all the negative things going on in the media,
some positive things were happening in the City of Brotherly Love and
Sisterly Affection - a/k/a Philadelphia, PA this weekend: The Ghana USA
Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ghanaian Business Expo at the Pennsylvania
Convention Center.
Starting
Friday, September 16, and culminating with a Gala on Saturday,
September 17, Florence Torson Hart, president of the Ghana USA Chamber
hosted dignitaries from all over Ghana, as well as entrepreneurs,
businesses, city and state officials in a day-long forum focused on the
future of business between Ghana and the United States.
Many
do not realize that Philadelphia is a major Port of Call for many
original Ghanaian products - from food, to furniture, to fashion - which
is then distributed throughout the US. Or, at least that's the hope.
As with every other economy and business, Covid 19 had a negative impact
on imports and exports - and Ghana, like the rest of the world, is in
the process of recuperating and reinstating their business ties.
Along
with the business portion of the conference, many merchants and
entrepreneurs traveled to Philadelphia as well to show some of their
latest products, designs, and food items.
Because
we yet have and African supermarket, or African Department Store, or
African Shopping center, I thought you might enjoy seeing some of the
innovative products emanating from OUR MOTHERLAND. One of the last
statements at the forum was from a panelist who said they were looking
for partnerships - preferably with brothers and sisters in the 6th
Diaspora - that's us folks. There are some opportunities for
investment, distribution, conceptualizing - and other efforts. These
were only a few of the many products and desigs available - I also
included some of the businesscards from the merchants - however, the
best way to see what they have to offer - up close and personal - is to
make it to the the Expo at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th and
Arch Streets Exhibition All (2nd Floor) today, Saturday, September 17,
from 11:00 until.
I
will confess that if I had the bucks, I would have bought everything
they had on display. As they used to say, "I couldn't see for
looking!"
One
of the main sponsors for this event was the Mayor's Commission on
African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs - this is one of many that will
be presented throughout the years highlighting opportunities for
businesses and trade throughout Africa with the Sixth Diapora.
