By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

The Honorable City Councilwoman, JANNIE BLACKWELL and the Honorable YOUMA BA of Echoes of Africa will celebrate 22 years in Philadelphia by hosting their annual festival at Marcus Garvey Park, 52nd and Pine Streets on Saturday, August 25 - and if their events of the past are any indication, a good time will be had by all!!!

The Hon. Jannie L.  Blackwell & Youma Ba, President of Echoes of Africa

This multicultural, multiAfrican organization dedicated to bringing the various African cultures together in Philadelphia with African American and Caribbean cultures to promote better understanding, interaction, communication, education and collaboration.

City Councilwoman Jannie L Blackwell co-founded the organization along with the honorable Stanley Straughter, and throughout the year host a series of meetings and events to enhance and expand our knowledge of, and respect for each other.  We are all people of African heritage, regardless of where we originated on the Continent, or where we landed in the Diaspora.

Normally the annual event is held in the Philadelphia Zoo.  This year Echoes of Africa is hosting the celebration in Marcus Garvey Park in order to promote greater interaction with the surrounding African American community.

Music, food, fun, family, fashion, friends - our culture on display - will be the focus of this wonderful event.
