JUNE 2016 EVENT ALERTS - GET READY FOR NON-STOP ACTIVITIES - revised edition

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

There's an old Broadway show tune entitled JUNE IS BUSTING OUT ALL OVER!!!  And that's exactly what it feels like right about now.  June is already in high gear, and today is only the second. And at the rate things are going, it can only get more intense.  And the great thing about it is that the weather is cooperating beautifully.  As I've said before, this is by no means an exhaustive list of events.  Just some things that I think you'd like to know about or be involved in. As usually, my primary areas are New York and Philadelphia - but where ever we're doing something positive, powerful and empowering, I try to include them as well.  The important thing is to be involved - We're always doing something, somewhere - 24/7-365 - you can't be everywhere, but you can be somewhere.  Make it something positive.

NEW YORK CITY, NY

JUNE 4, 2016 OVERNIGHT SUICIDE PREVENTION WALK
This wonderful annual event is the brainchild for sister/friend and PR Diva, Terrie Williams of the Terrie Williams Agency in NYC.  It is not only to highlight what appears to be a growing suicide rate among our people, but to signal to them that they are not alone; we love them, we're there for them, and that they have resources - spiritually, mentally, emotionally, psychologically and professionally waiting, willing, ready and able to help them through the tough times.  Not only do Black lives, all our lives matter to us - not one more brother or sister should  be lost to suicide.
If you are interested in participating, please log on to this link below.

This is my favorite bookstore on the planet.  Despite the efforts of the developers, who took over her site and shut down the physical shop three years ago, she's still standing.  So make sure you get out and support her.  Reading is not only fundamental, it's absolutely essential.  Hug a book and it's author.

AND WE'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

In July we will launch our new beta product called Wordeee.  As lifelong Hue-Man customers we'd love to hear your thoughts and hope you will be excited about this new opportunity.  Please take a minute to fill out the survey at the link below.

What is Wordeee?
Wordeee is a hi-tech, hi-touch technology and social media publishing platform which opens the world to every author, reader, and creative who use words as the basis of their art. For the writing community, and their audiences, Wordeee's social ecosystem provides a full service publishing platform where all authors can have fair access and full support to put on their best performance. June 22nd
VIP Event

An exciting account of the international adventures of fashion model Pat Cleveland one of the first black supermodels during the wild sixties and seventies.
New York in the sixties and seventies was glamorous and gritty at the same time, a place where people like Warhol, Avedon, and Halston as well their muses came to pursue their wildest ambitions, and when the well began to run dry they darted off to Paris. Though born on the very fringes of this world, Patricia Cleveland, through a combination of luck, incandescent beauty, and enviable style, soon found herself in the center of all that was creative, bohemian, and elegant. A walking girl, a runway fashion model whose inimitable style still turns heads on the runways of New York, Paris, Milan, and Tokyo, Cleveland was in high demand.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

After decades of preaching, teaching, and counseling, influential Christian leader A.R. Bernard reveals the four qualities women want in a man qualities that make for a satisfying and happy relationship.
As a longtime pastor of a big-city church, A.R. Bernard has witnessed couples in every stage of life. He's been with them as they experienced dizzying joys, unspeakable tragedies, and everything in between.
As men and women have come to Bernard for spiritual counseling and advice, he's learned patterns of behavior that are repeated time and again. After almost four decades of preaching, teaching, and counseling, he's seen that while every situation is unique, people's behaviors and consequences are amazingly consistent. With this in mind, Bernard has developed a simple system for understanding how couples relate to each other.
"McFadden packs a powerful punch with tight prose and short chapters that bear witness to key events in early twentieth-century history: both World Wars, the Great Depression, and the Great Migration. Partly set in the Jim Crow South, the novel succeeds in showing the prevalence of racism all across the country--whether implemented through institutionalized mechanisms or otherwise. Playing with themes of divine justice and the suffering of the righteous, McFadden presents a remarkably crisp portrait of one average man's extraordinary bravery in the face of pure evil."
--"Booklist," Starred review

The #1 "New York "Times bestselling author of "How Stella Got Her Groove Back "and "Waiting To Exhale" is back with the inspiring story of a woman who shakes things up in her life to find greater meaning
In "I Almost Forgot About You," Dr. Georgia Young's wonderful life--great friends, family, and successful career--aren't enough to keep her from feeling stuck and restless. When she decides to make some major changes in her life, quitting her job as an optometrist, and moving house, she finds herself on a wild journey that may or may not include a second chance at love. Like "Waiting to Exhale" and "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," "I Almost Forgot About You" will show legions of readers what can happen when you face your fears, take a chance, and open yourself up to life, love, and the possibility of a new direction.

SATURDAY JUNE 18, 2016
CELEBRATION OF JUNETEENTH AT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM
With celebrity guests, performances, activities for all age groups - a wonderful way to celebrate our heritage.*

*As kids in Oklahoma, our families would take Juneteenth off - we'd have major picnics with all the other Black families - most of us from Oklahoma City would go up to Lake Tenkiller - along with hundreds of other families.  Our folks would spend the entire day before preparing food for the celebration.  My parents would get picnic quilts, umbrellas, and mosquito repellant - pack up the car and try to get there early enough to get a spot closest to the water and the picnic tables.  We'd usually leave at 6:00AM - Everybody would have the same idea and there would be a line of traffic to get there.  We kids slept for the most part.  When we got to Lake Tenkiller (named for a Chief), we'd play and eat until we dropped. I'm glad to see that the tradition of Juneteenth has finally reached the East Coast. It was brought to Oklahoma in the 1800s from Texas and Missouri. Stay Blessed - GDW
