EVENT ALERT: AFRICA MAKOSSA - JOMION AND THE UKLOS BAND, MONDAY DECEMBER 7 AT CLUB BONAFIDE!!!

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

I am finding it extremely difficult to write this particular post. I've been struggling with it for the past hour! Not because it's unpleasant or negative - quite the contrary. It's because I'm being assailed by some of the best music out of Africa, coming at me from all sides via my headset - and it is difficult to sit here and write when I really want to be up and dancing!!!

And I guarantee you'll have the same problem, Monday, December 7, when you go to Club Bonafide to check out the Jumion & Uklos band!!!  They are the tops in MAKOSSA - or Music from Africa - especially areas of the Camerouns - were the rhythm takes over and moves you to new heights.

For those of you who may have no heard genuine African music before, you're in for a real treat - this is the genesis of all the music that we as Black people have inherited from our brothers and sisters from homeland, on a more social cultural level.

So come out, dance, prance, and enjoy - it doesn't matter if you understand the lyrics or not, because the one thing we all have in common is our soul!! And this music reaches deep down inside your soul and bids you come and be a part of what makes us great as a people of the greatest Continent in the world, regardless of whether we were born there, or in the diaspora.  You never ever lose your innate soul - your residual Africanness.

COME PREPARED TO CHASE YOUR "BLUE MONDAY" BLUES AWAY!

The show is being presented by promoter, Sparkie Martin, who was also instrumental in bringing AFRICA UMOJA to Symphony Space earlier this year.

This is a great opportunity to tie into the music of the Motherland, and add yet another piece of knowledge first hand about our history and culture to the great puzzle of who we are.

Enjoy!
Stay Blessed &
