AUGUST 9th SANKOFA FESTIVAL
South Philadelphia will come alive with the spirit of Ghana when the Philadelphia Asante (Ashanti) Nation, in association with the Agogo World Wide Association celebrate the 2014 Sankofa Festival, 12 noon - 6:00PM, Saturday, August 9 at 5th & Snyder Avenue. The festival is a celebration of the Ashanti/Akan culture in the Delaware Valley and the African cultural heritage of Africans born in America, Ghana, and the African Diaspora.

2:30 PM – 3:00PM Procession of Asante Royalty / Kente Dancers

AUGUST 9:  THE WIZ N' DA HOOD:  For those of you who have little people, this is sure to be a delight.  All original scripts, costumes and performances by Philadelphia neighborhood children.  


NOW THRU AUGUST 29:  Outdoors is the place to be and Councilwoman Cindy Bass is sponsoring events around the neighborhood


AUGUST 9:  Philadelphia Men Who Care's Annual Bar-B-Q  - bring your appetites, and prepare to have fun hanging with your friends and neighbors



AUGUST 9, 2014  August 6 was the 52 Anniversary of Jamaica's Independence from British rule.  Much celebrating already but on Saturday, August 9, things will really heat up:

A Jamaican cultural exposition, that consist of the following:-
Jamaica craft
Jamaican visual arts-Paintings of Jamaica historic sites and tourist attractions
Jamaican culinary arts-various Jamaican food for sale
Jamaican apparels for sale
Family games: Egg & Spoon race / Tug & War / Kids Race / Moms Race / Dads Race / crow cuss Bag Race
Singing completion for Kids / Adults

Each ticket purchased, will be entered in a raffle, to win a trip to Jamaica for Two (2) by Fly Jamaica Airline & a Weekend for Two (2) at Sandals Resort in Jamaica.

There are a ton of things going on through the end of August - in both New York and Philadelphia, but those of you who know what's up will be saving your strength for the big jump up on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, NY when the West Indian Day Parade and festival takes place.

But this should keep you busy for a minute or two
