Hello All:
One of the most fantastic brothers that ever lived and walked the planet was William Edward Burghardt DuBois - aka W.E.B. DuBois. Scholar, author, activist, lover of Black people, leader, co-founder of the NAACP, The Crisis Magazine, among others.
The African American Museum in Philadelphia will celebrate its 6th Annual W.E.B. DuBois Day on Monday, February 24, 2020 - doors open at 4:30 - the Museum is located at 7th and Arch Streets.
DuBois, who did the seminal study, The Philadelphia Negro in 1899 for the University of Pennsylvania, as well as Souls of Black Folks, and enunciated the Talented Tenth, as well as Dusk of Dawn, Dark Water, The Gift of Black Folk, John Brown - and so many others - books our children, and many of us adults need to read. And for those of us who have already read his works, we probably need to read them again - especially The Philadelphia Negro.
DuBois was born February 23, 1868 in Great Barrington, MA, and passed in 1963 in Accra, Ghana. He was smart enough to leave America when it became clear that the government was going to try to silence him because of his beliefs and great influence. Too bad he was not able to take Paul Robeson with him, who ended up literally being a prisoner in his own home in Philadelphia for also trying to save Black people.
DuBois attended Fisk University, an HBCU in Tennessee, and graduated from Harvard University in 1895, but could not get gainful employment, despite the fact that he had an earned doctorate. However, he was hired as a consultant by the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia to do the exponential analysis of Black life in Philadelphia. Nothing of its magnitude had ever been done - before or since. I remember having to study it in school - even though I had no idea at the time that I would ever live in Philly or even attend Lincoln University. Interestingly enough, my Senior Thesis was on DuBois and Marcus Garvey - two great Black leaders, and their clash over whether Black people would fare better if they went back to Africa. Garvey was for it, DuBois was against it. The white news papers, who were trying to undermine Garvey, made a big deal of it in their meanstream newspapers - including the New York Times. Ultimately, the white uberstructure prevented the more than 12 million Black people from returning to Africa; ironically, DuBois ended up spending his last years there.
The NAACP is now 111 years old, and still standing for Black People's Rights. Thanks to Dr. DuBois, we not only have that, but the many wonderful contributions from his genius.
That said, make sure you come out to the AAMP and celebrate the life of this great man.
Stay Blessed &

EVENT ALERT: MINISTER FARRAKHAN IN PHILADELPHIA TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8
By Gloria Dulan-Wilson
Hello All:
Well, with just a little more than a month left before the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March in DC, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will be attending a rally in Philadelphia, PA at the TINLEY TEMPLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (750 SO. BROAD ST.)
The doors will open at 5:00 PM, but it has not yet been ascertained what time the Minister will address the audience.
The Million Man March was originally held in DC on October 16, 1995, and actually attracted two million Black men (and the women who love them), in an epochmaking gathering that spread from the steps of the White House to the Lincoln Memorial.
It was a peaceful gathering, and a beautiful sight to behold. As Farrakhan administered the pledge to the participants, it was a stirring moment etched in Black history.
Many of the Black men who participated went home and fulfilled their pledge to devote their energy to the upliftment of Black people - some ran for office, some opened businesses, some developed affordable homes, some started education and employment programs.
But now, 20 years later, there appears to have been a deterioration of some of the efforts and energiesd the Minister sought to engender - but not necessarily as much on the part of Black men, as it has been an effort from the meanstream to undermine the good that had been started.
The Subprime Court eviscerated the Voting Rights act, leaving Black people vulnerable to the jim crow laws of the past; the economic downturn of the mid-2000 - brought to you by the courtesy of former ersatz president George Bush and the Repuglycon party, literally destroyed Black home ownership, Black businesses, and Black investments - leaving families vulnerable to foreclosures and the biggest land grab since the Oklahoma Ruin (Run?) of 1889, when they stole millions of acres of lands from Indians and Black/Indian Families.
The escalation of privatized prison facilities, and the railroading of young Black males into prisons for non-violent misdemeanor crimes on the part of handpicked paid off judges.
And of course, the increased number of egregious, heinous, aggressive, fatal shootings of Black men and women by people who call themselves members of the law enforcement, but should have never had a badge or a gun under any circumstances - who probably would not pass a sanity test, and who have been allowed to walk free by "grunge" (nothing "grand" about them) juries - likewise paid and hand picked.
With aggression coming from all corners - especially via the meanstream media's broadbrushed negative depiction of Black men, and of course our own complicit self sabotage, we are in a precarious situation as a people.
This reunion, and hopefully REUNIFICATION - of Black men (and women) and the REDEDICATION to our families, neighborhoods, and communities, is absolutely essential. PHILADELPHIA is 68% Black, and has the largest majority urban Black population in the Northeast - but acts like second class citizens, instead of a major power base.
The education system is an insult; but no one seems to be able to figure out how to change it. The housing situation in many areas is deplorable. There are adults who need as much remediation as their children need decent educations, but are allowed to continue to live in dysfunctional, semi-literate situations, similar to the way Black people lived in Philly in the 1890s when W.E.B. duBois did his epochmaking 500 in depth, sociological study entitled THE PHILADELPHIA NEGRO.
The Million Man March 20th Anniversary, which takes place October 10, 2015 in DC, is entitled JUSTICE - OR ELSE. Some view it as a threat - however, it really serves notice on a lot of levels - not just to trigger happy policemen, but to Black people who need to take principled stands to save themselves and their own families from the inner disintegration of quality of life.
But, of course, the Brother Minister is far more articulate and erudite than I am. You need to make it your business to be there on Tuesday, September 8; and even more importantly, October 10, 2015 in DC.
The admission to the Tinley Temple is free and open to the public. There are other activities that you also might be interested in below.

EVENT ALERT: DUTCHMAN - LIMITED ENGAGEMENT AT THE CASTILLO THEATRE, NYC
By Gloria Dulan-Wilson
Hello All:
Fifty plus years ago Dutchman premiered at the Cherry Lane Theatre - it was Amiri Baraka's first play - and won him an Obie (Off Broadway) award.
The great producer/director, Woodie King Jr. has reprised the play, in partnership with the Castillo Theatre, for a limited engagement.
I had the privilege of checking it out recently and it is as relevant now as it was when Amiri first penned and produced it. That's both good and bad news. It means that he was, as always ahead of his time, with his fingers on the pulse of society. The sad thing is that the needle on the timeline of society's progress has shifted but little since then - so the relevancy of this play is tragically and poignantly still valid.
Many of you will find yourselves riding on that same subway with Clay - the malleable one - while he gives Lulu a merry, but psycho/cerebral chase. It is to be experienced as much as watched - you're drawn in to the drama and trauma as they make their way through the verbal gymnastics of this mighty tour de force.
CASTILLO NOTES: The title Dutchman is an allusion to The Dutch East India Company, the most renowned slave ship company of the 17th century, whose flagship for the voyages between West Africa and America, tradition says, was named Flying Dutchman. The literary legend is The Flying Dutchman in which the central character is ever in pursuit of prey that can never be caught. This production will include the music of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. Experimental, allegorical and angry, Dutchman is set on a New York City subway train, where Lula, a young white woman, strikes up a conversation with Clay, a young middle-class black man. As the play unspools, she goads him, with liberal righteousness, into releasing the anger that, as a black man, he must surely be harboring.
Ryan Jillian Kilpatrick does a wonderful job portraying the elusive, abusive Lulu, while Michael Alcide makes a perfect "Clay" everyman who is tempted and repulsed at the same time. Bill Toles who produced the sound and audio draws you right into the reality of the ride.
Dutchman opened February 5 at the Castillo Theatre for a limited engagement - with March 8 being the final performance date.
For information and tickets contact Castillo at (212) 941-1234 - The Castillo Theatre is located at 543 W. 42nd Street in NYC.
Also note that Woodie King will produce Amiri Baraka's final play, THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA - the story of W. E. B. DuBois and his bouts with Senator Joseph McCarthy during the McCarthy Era. There is a KICKSTARTER FUNDRAISING EFFORT to provide funds for this monumental production. Those of you who are interested can contact Woodie King via the Castillo Theatre for information on how you can help. Contributions as little as $10.00 will go a long way in making this historical play a reality.

Pennsylvania Legislation entertaining bill to mandate teaching the Jewish Holocaust in schools: WHAT ABOUT THE AFRICAN HOLOCAUST??
By Gloria Dulan-Wilson
Brothers and Sisters:
I originally posted this article in November. ATAC has been working to get similar legislation for mandatory teaching of Black History in Pennsylvania Schools. It seems idiotic to me to mandate the teaching of history that occurred outside our country while not upholding the same for history that is part and parcel of the making of the United States. I have been informed that the legislation passed the state, with all of the Black legislators voting in favor, without taking any stand whatsoever for Black History or the expanded education of the students. Who is this history supposed to benefit - when you consider that Philadelphia is 68% Black, it appears that there is a major imbalance here.
It's definitely up to the citizens of Pennsylvania in general, and Philadelphia in particular, to put the State Legislators on notice that this is stupid and unacceptable.
Below is a repost of the original article:
Hello
All:
When I received this email from a trusted source on November
25, it took me a couple of days to absorb it. I couldn't quite wrap
my mind around why such an edict should be going through the
Pennsylvania State legislation since, as has been noted, they have
yet to enforce a previous mandate that has been on the books for
quite some time now to teach African/American History in the schools.
...Carter G. Woodson has produced a definitive and constructive critique of the educational system, with special reference to its blighting effects on the Negro; and the term he used, Mis-education, was the most apt and descriptive word available. It is still, in 2013, equally as relevant and expressive."
In addition to Carter G. Woodson, and W.E.B.duBois, Dr. Charles Blockson, Molefi Kete Asante, Michael Coard are contemporary scholars who reside in Philadelphia, and can also shed some light on what the impact is at this very point in time - 80 years after Woodson first published the book -that are still hampering Black Philadelphians, as well as Black People.
It is patently clear that the Pennsylvania State Legislature, thus far, has no interest or investment in the education or well being of Black students in Philadelphia, or surrounding areas, or they would not have closed down 29 schools, under the guise of budgetary considerations, while at the same time proposing over $15,000,000 in allocations for a Holocaust museum; and simultaneously putting the shuttered schools up for sale - an obvious land grab and a way of throwing funds to contractors and developers to curry their favor and funding for future election runs. Many of these schools are hundreds of years old, should have been landmarked, and should have been assisted with their problems instead of being destabilized and destroyed.
It is up to each and every resident of Philadelphia, people in the surrounding states, Black people nationwide, to put a stop to this obvious attempt to further eviserate, denigrage, and humiliate Black people whether in Philly, New York, DC, Virginia, North/South Carolina, California - If you don't - you and your children are DOOMED to never ever have a place of significance, success, relevance or blessing now or in the future.
If we can elect a BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - TWICE; we can determine and demand the educational destiny of our Black Children, whether in elementary, secondary or college education programs be positive, empowering, relevant, and as much about them as the STEM programs that are being fashioned as the required curriculum. Without an education that is culturally, intellectually, and educationally relevant, we will continue to be our own self marginalizers. We do not need to continue to be the ones who help the transducers (Woodson's favorite word) hold us down. We have to exercise our collective consciousnesses, and take action to make sure that we are not subjugated to others' need to control our minds.
Stay Blessed&
ECLECTICALLY BLACK
Gloria Dulan-Wilson
NOTE: Rather than rewrite the email, I'm presenting it in it's entirety, along with some comments from others who are equally outraged at the affront on the part of the Corbett Administration to try and impose this heinous law on the Philadelphia school system, at this or any other time, while completely ignoring the plight their own residents and their descendants have suffered for over 400 years; many of whom are still grappling with post traumatic slave syndrome and other side effects of oppression:
WHAT ABOUT THE AFRICAN HOLOCAUST? ? SMDH

State Sen. Tony Williams, who wants
to be mayor, is a sponsor of one of these bills and other negro
politicians have co-sponsored various versions. Mis-Education criticizes the system, and explains
the vicious circle that results from mis-educated
individuals graduating, then proceeding
to teach and mis-educate others
SMDH "I told my boss he'd better NOT co-sponsor any of those bills
without amending them to include the African Holocaust which lasted 400
years, dispersed enslaved Africans around the world, raped, lynched and
tortured them, took the lives of millions of our ancestors including
those lost in the Middle Passage, took our languages, religion/culture
and broke up families. "
The community needs to make it clear
to the negroes that co-sponsored these bills that it's not acceptable
unless the African Holocaust is specifically named and included.
Vanessa Brown, the chair of the Black Caucus (what a joke) is on one of
them and Cherelle Parker sponsored a resolution commending Jews for
teaching at HBCUs SMDH. {Mis-Education criticizes the system, and explains
the vicious circle that results from mis-educated

to teach and mis-educate others}
Where is the voice of the caucus
speaking up for our African ancestors? Negroes still kowtowing to the
Jews while ignoring their own history. There were Jews that owned
slaves, and participated in and made big money off of the African
Holocaust. The ship that b rought the Liberty Bell over was a slave ship
owned by Jews from the Univ. of PA ("The LIberty Bell Era" by Charles
L. Blockson) The powers that be associate the word "holocaust" with Jews
and Germany only. SMDH That must change.
This needs to be discussed publicly with a public response from Black historians and others. People at WURD Radio love some of these politicians so don't depend on them to bring it up.
The people must speak out!
If no-one says anything and one of those bills passes as is, then
that's what we get. I don't want to hear anyone fussing about it after
the deal is done like Black folks usually do.
Now is the time to let your views be known.
However, we do know that in 2013, Black folk are still scared of Jewish
backlash, while no-one is scared of the Black backlash.
Below is a sample of some of the bills and the link to read the original documents.
What say YOU?
When Rhonda Fink-Whitman decided to test college
students' knowledge of the Holocaust, lugging a video camera to four
local campuses, she discovered some amazing facts: Adolf Hitler was the leader of Amsterdam. Josef
Mengele was an author. And JFK led the Allies during World War II,
assisted by an American Army general named Winston Churchill. Hardly any students had heard of the Holocaust, the
Nazis' systematic murder of six million Jews. And when her questions
turned to the Night of Broken Glass, the Nuremberg Trials, or the
meaning of the phrase the Final Solution, forget it.
Her 15-minute film, "The Mandate Video," is a powerful piece of advocacy, viewed more than 260,000 times on YouTube and helping drive a campaign to require Pennsylvania schools to teach children about the Holocaust. The effort has attracted passionate supporters (OBVIOUSLY THEY DID NOT CONTACT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE OPPOSED TO THIS - CONSIDERABLY TEN TIMES THAT NUMBER) but seems stalled in the legislature

COMMENTARIES THUS FAR:
COMMENTARY ONE:
1. Are we clear that the definitions they are using in
the proposed legislation for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights
Violations do not include the enslavement of Black people in the
"Americas"?
2. Anybody interested in starting a "Move ON" Petition against legislation?
3.Has this been sent to the MKA Institute?
4. Has Avenging the Ancestors (Michael Coard) organized around this at all?
5. Has NAACP (Philly or PA chapters) organized around this at all?
6. Where does the Parent school groups stand on this?
This sounds really crazy just from the standpoint of enshrining such a requirement in law. Is the precedence for this?
COMMENTARY TWO:
I'm going to write letters of protest and concern to them and let them know how I feel. We always complain to each other instead of the people perpetrating this nonsense.

Arabs who are also equally categorized as Semites. NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! Indigenous and Africans FIRST. And if this wrong succeeds in Philadelphia, it will replicate all across the U.S.
