ICYMI - EMERGENCY ALERT!!! Cheyney University Under Siege!! The Sharks are in the water!!

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson

I came across this article in the news last week!  I immediately let out  a few well chosen swear words, copied the link and sent the article to a few of my associates.
But I think we need to make this go viral - and then rally the troupes to stop this assault!

Well, here we go! The sharks are in the waters and circling our beloved CHEYNEY University.

Did I say “beloved”?!??

Absolutely! Even though I am a proud LINCOLN University Alumna, and we have this friendly rivalry between us, at the end of the day Lincoln University and Cheyney are the world’s FIRST HBCUs!!

And Pennsylvania has the honor and distinction of being the state that has the TWO FIRST HBCUs IN THE NATION AND IN THE WORLD.  You'd think they would take better care of such a legacy.

We have to be cognizant of the fact that we have to stand with Cheney, watch our own backs, and circle the wagons lest we all get past coed off one by one via veiled right wingnut assaults on our beloved and ESSENTIAL HBCUs individually and collectively!

The old saying, “When they came for my rival, I said nothing; when they came for my neighbor, I said and did nothing - then they came for me - and there was no one left to help me.

Now, I’m not saying that standards and accreditation are not important; what I am saying is that we deserve full disclosure, assistance, and ameliorative options - not a sneak attack, or a full frontal assault and public condemnation that further sullies our reputation and discouraged faculty, students, administrators and alumni!🤨

As with everything else in this country, Cheyney, Lincoln U, and our others HBCUs are egregiously and chronically, and in many cases deliberately underfunded. Yet they still do their best to prove quality professional education to the majority population of Black students.

Sabotage couched under the guise of professionalism is still sabotage.  The most disgusting thing these organizations can say is, “it’s not personal, it’s ‘objective.’”

You can tell that I’m really upset about this sneak attack on Cheyney, because I’m writing this on my iPhone- and I have dyslexic fingers!

There are several HBCU themed organizations and publications - let’s circle the wagons for Cheyney, and the rest of our HBCUs.

Likewise, those who owe their careers and livelihoods to HBCUs in general, and CHEYNEY in particular, we have to close ranks and put our considerable collective minds, talents, powers, resiliency together to protect and enhance our treasured institutions! They were here when we could not attend predominantly white institutions (pwi) - some were founded by caucasians for Black people; some were founded by Black people and church groups - and they can each point with pride at all they’ve accomplished in Higher Education over the past 170 years.

Lincoln, which was founded as a Degree Granting University in 1854 will celebrate 170 years on April 29, 2024!   We are so very proud of our Alma Mater and all the HBCUs who have stayed the course!
And it is up to us all BLACK PEOPLE WORLDWIDE TO ENSURE THEIR PLACE AN RELEVANCE FOR THE NEXT 170 YEARS - as well as the viability of all our HBCUs - whether you go to college or not.  And if we don't stand up for them, shame on us as a people.

There is an old saying:  IF NO ONE ELSE WILL SAVE US - WE HAVE TO SAVE OURSELVES

GDW EMERGENCY ALERT: LINCOLN UNIVERSITY ALUMNI - DID YOU MAKE YOUR $20.00 CONTRIBUTION YET? NOVEMBER 30 IS THE DEADLINE!

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

This is a last minute message to all my Lincoln University Alumni
Before you sit go rushing out to make those last minute purchases for Thanksgiving Dinner; Before you get on the flight to join your family/friends somewhere in the US or otherwise for the holidays; before you go hanging out and partying with friends - DID YOU MAKE YOUR CONTRIBUTION YET?

DID YOU ANSWER THE CALL, STAND UP TO THE CHALLENGE, GIVE BACK TO YOUR ALMA MATER LINCOLN UNIVERSITY?

OSEI RUBIE ISSUED AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE AT LEAST 250 LINCOLNIANS CONTRIBUTE $20.00 EACH, WHICH HE WOULD MATCH, TO HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS LOOKING TO ATTEND.

THE DEADLINE IS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30.
NOW MY QUESTION IS:  DID YOU CHIP IN YOUR $20.00?????
IF NOT, WHY NOT?
IF NOT, WHEN,

I'm officially putting you on blast - this is not going to be just enclosed within the privacy of our personal communication.  As the first HBCU, with much to be proud of, it would be a shame to say that we couldn't find 250 Lincoln Alumni out of the 6,000 who reside in Philadelphia, PA alone, or those who live in New York, DC, Baltimore, Delaware, Virginia, California, Chicago, Ohio, Boston, etc. to meet and/or exceed this worthy goal.

You can use Cash App, Check, Money Order, Western Unioin, MoneyGram, or deliver it in person - but do not allow 11:59PM November 30 to come without your $20.00

With so many HBCUs facing financial challenges, and closing because of lack of funding/support, we cannot rely on outsiders, or chance funding to make the difference.  It's our Alma Mater - and Dear Lincoln needs us to do our part.

Thank you for your help.

Also, thanks to Osei Rubie for his generosity.

Stay Blessed &

GDW EVENT ALERT: KAPPA ALPHA PSI CONVENTION IN PHILLY

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

Philadelphia is about to be engulfed in Creme and Crimson - and this time it's Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity that's poised to take over the city and do some good in the process!  How wonderful!  But the reason I'm most elated about this event is because of the upcoming Ol Skool Fundraiser they are sponsoring for LINCOLN UNIVERSITY AND CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY -

I am urging all my LINCOLN UNIVERSITY ALUMNI, as well as CHEYNEY  TO BUY A TICKET even if you won't be able to attend; or, better yet, make a contribution to this event.  We have to support those who support us.

I also urge the DIVINE NINE - PANHELLENIC COUNCIL to likewise participate and contribute to this wonderful event.

It's interesting that Pennsylvania happens to be the host of two of the First Black Schools of Higher Education in the Nation, but allocates less than 10% of the funds in comparison to what they allocate to other Universities in the same geographical area.  Both Schools have faced the risk of closing as the result of the lack of adequate state funding.  It is highly commendable that the Brothers of KAPPA ALPHA PSI HAVE DEDICATED THEIR  EFFORTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CONTINUED WELL BEING OF THESE TWO GREAT UNIVERSITIES.
