GDW EVENT ALERT: Greater Philadelphia Congressional Academy Day on Saturday, September 24.

Hello All:

On the eve of the return of the Congressional Black Caucus to in person for the first time since Covid, Philadelphia legislators and elected officials are hosting a Greater Philadelphia Congressional Academy Day on Saturday, September 24.  

This is an opportunity to meet your representatives, learn about issues confronting us locally and nationally, and make recommendations of your own about how some of the issues they are confronting might be resolved.  

I'm sure I don't need to tell you how important it is to be in communication with your elected officials on a continuous basis.  They work in our behalf; but won't know what we need if we don't tell them of our concerns. 

 

 

Sadly, many of us don't know who our representatives are on a local, state and national level - and don't know who to turn to when we have issues.  

We are in a crucial election year - the 2022 MIDTERM ELECTIONS ARE THE MOST PIVOTAL EVER.  The stakes are extremely high, because the very democracy of our country is on the chopping block if we don't get it right.  It's important to know who is on the frontline standing for us.  These representatives don't just show up when there is an election - their responsibilities are year round - practically 24/7/365.  

Now is the time to touch base with them and make sure you are in communication.

In 2016, Americans were hoodwinked, lied to and betrayed by the repuglycons and T-rump, resulting in 4+years of the worst Presidential administration in the history of this country.  Under his watch racism, lies, privation have elevated exponentially.  Education has been sabotaged, our health has been compromised; children have been separated from their parents and put into concentration camps; the US has suffered alienation from friendly countries, while the ersatz president curried relationships with such enemies as Russia, North Korea, Red China. 2016 was never a fair and honest election, ballots were tampered with; and T-rump should never have ever occupied the office of the Presidency, and most definitely  must not be allowed to continue stirrinf up hostilities among American citizens.   Violations of women's rights,  voters rights, health rights, diverting the US mail in order to avoid free and fair vote by mail options for all Americans; placing bogus or corrupt judges on the bench are just some of the things we have suffered under the T-rump administration.  The attempt to establish a dictatorship by running such candidates as Oz and Mastriano must be stopped.

THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN - EVER! It is important that we know, and are clear about our rights and responsibilities as Americans so we don't have a repeat of this travesty in the future.  WE must know as much about the candidates and elected officials as we do about sports figures, artists, superstars, movie stars, etc.

ICYMI: Today, September 20, 2022 is NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY - Get Up! Get Out! Register!

Hello All:

 

In case you are wondering why you're receiving so many Y/OUR MIDTERM VOTES MATTER notifications, it's because, as of today, September 20, 2022, we have less than 6 weeks to make sure that we are all registered to vote - October 24, 2022 is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming MIDTERM ELECTIONS. That means we have to make an all out push - locally and nationally - register and vote.  When I say every vote counts, I mean it!  It was our very votes that toppled the T-rump regime - that turned the tables on one of the most heinous abuse of power ever witnessed in modern times.  

As a student in college, in the 60s, I was among the many students who helped our people register to vote for the first time in their lives.  President Lyndon Baines Johnson has signed the Voting Rights Act - but there were so many people who were intimidated by the old Jim Crow racist laws, they didn't trust they would actually be allowed to vote.  I remember having to go door to door to many Black families and reassure them that they would not be molested or attacked when they voted.  I will never forget that experience.  And I have never taken my right and responsibility to vote for granted.  I have voted in every election ever since then.  Somehow, we've gotten lackadaisical in honoring our hard fought rights.  There were, indeed, people - some of them my peers -  in other parts of the US, who were murdered for helping Black people register to vote.  VOTING IS POWER - and there are those who want us to remain powerless.  The grandchildren of those oppressors are the ones who are trying to block our votes today.  As in the 60s, we have to take our stand TODAY and claim our rights and never let them turn us around.

     The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy — it defines us as Americans and serves as the cornerstone of our liberty.  With it, anything is possible in America; without it, nothing is.  It is a legacy passed down by our greatest leaders — a legacy which provides each one of us with a voice in the creation of a better Nation.  It is the source of our power as citizens, our mightiest tool of social transformation, and the stabilizing tradition that confers legitimacy to our system of Government.  Each year on National Voter Registration Day, we reaffirm our conviction that democracy only works when everyone can participate, and we encourage all eligible Americans to register to vote.

     Our Nation has not always lived up to its promise of equal access to the right to vote, and so many Americans have struggled, suffered, and died fighting for a say in the destiny of our country.  From Seneca Falls, New York, to Selma, Alabama, to Washington, D.C. — and across America — ordinary people have organized to protest disenfranchisement and won.  The efforts of these courageous women and men have led to the passage of landmark civil rights legislation like the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, and the Help America Vote Act, which extended the blessings of democracy to millions of citizens.  Lately, however, those protections have been weakened by decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States.  Now, State legislatures are passing new forms of voting restrictions to limit participation and choose whose vote can count at all.  As the late Representative John Lewis, an icon of the voting rights struggle, would say, “democracy is not a state; it is an act.”  Our Founding Fathers understood this, as did the suffragists at the National Women’s Rights Convention of 1848, the other giants of the Civil Rights Movement, and today’s activists working for a freer, fairer, and more accessible voting system.  Just as securing and protecting voting rights was the test of their times, it continues to be the challenge of ours.

     As President, I will do everything in my power to protect the right to vote and ensure that every American has a free and fair opportunity to exercise this fundamental liberty.  This means appointing highly qualified advocates to the Department of Justice and doubling the agency’s voting rights enforcement staff to ensure the Department has the resources to fight voter suppression in the courts.  It also means issuing an Executive Order to establish a whole-of-government effort to promote access to voter registration and election information, especially in some of our most underserved communities.  I have directed my Administration to take historic action to help college students and veterans register effectively.  I continue to call on the Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.  These laws would address election subversion, remove dark money from politics, end partisan gerrymandering, and fix the gaping holes in voter access left by the Supreme Court of the United States.  They would also allow the Justice Department to halt discriminatory laws before they go into effect.

     In celebration of National Voter Registration Day, let us honor the heroes who fought to secure voting rights and expand them.  I call on all eligible Americans to ensure that their registration is up to date and to encourage their family, neighbors, and friends to do the same.  Let us all remain engaged with the ongoing struggle to build an America where every vote matters and where every citizen has the ability and the right to participate freely in the democratic process.  We cannot give up now.  The future of our Nation depends on it.  To learn more about how to register or check your voter registration information, you can visit vote.gov.

I don't need to add anything to that, except to say, it is up to us all to do our part - no one is exempt from voting - it is the most civilized means by which we negotiate and voice our choices, make change, and peacefully make decisions for the benefit of the people.  When those who do not respect the will of the people, and use corrupt means to disregard, steal,  or block our right to vote, we have to fight all the more for our rights, and stand together, united against such underhanded, negative e-vile forces.  

As we have seen over the past 6 years, since the elections were stolen via foreign intervention, America has been tottering on a precipice of massive division - possible destruction.  This is not by accident - this is by conspiracy and by the machinations of an individual who has sought to set up a dictatorship.  With all the flaws the US has - and we know them all too well - we cannot sit idly by and allow this to happen!  We've already had a taste (a nasty taste) of what life in America would be like under the previous predator in chief  (as you know, as far as I'm concerned T-rump was never the President - cheating and destroying votes is not "winning") - we already know the brand of political abuse he and his associates (henchmen, lackeys and maga/maggots would bring if we don't do our job; we've already seen the in-your-face violence his administration has underwritten, the undermining of healthcare, the lack of healthcare, the destruction of humanity - WE CANNOT ALLOW THAT TO PREVAIL!  We've seen his cohorts do their best (or worst) to deprive us of our right to vote - gerrymandering, closing of polls, making cockamamie laws to prevent unity and assistance to those who are frail elderly; the tampering with the mail, and the bribing or intimidation of pollsters to deter accurate counts of the vote. WE CANNOT ALLOW THEM TO PREVAIL!

Recently, on his late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel said:

"NOTHING WOULD MAKE ME WANT TO VOTE MORE THAN KNOWING THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT ME TO VOTE!!"

The very fact that they are bending over backwards to prevent you from voting, pulling every trick in the book, buying judges, and other "officials" to discount your vote; destroying the sanctity of the U.S. MAIL by hiring a mendicant to destroy it - should tell you that the REPUGLYCONS are afraid of you!  They are afraid of the BLACK VOTERS and afraid of WOMEN VOTERS and afraid of BROWN AND OTHER VOTERS!

AND, MAKE NO MISTAKE:    WE HAVE TO TAKE BOTH THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE - WE HAVE TO HAVE A CLEAR MAJORITY -  WE HAVE TO MAKE IT CLEAR - ONCE AND FOR ALL - THAT THIS IS A DEMOCRACY - NOT A DICTATORSHIP!

Greetings all!  I just received this very disturbing news from The Daily Kos that alleged the following:   "Gloria, poll after poll after poll show Trump-endorsed  Walker with a slight lead over Democratic Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock."  I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach! I had a moment of panic after reading those words.  It's frightening to think that there is even a remote possibility of WannabeWalker becoming a Senator.  Such a tragedy and travesty must never happen.  There is no margin for error.   RAPHAEL WARNOCK FOR US SENATE - Y/OUR MIDTERM BLACK VOTES MATTER   Y/OUR BLACK MIDTERM VOTES 2022 MATTER IN GEORGIA AND ALL OVER AMERICA -  MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT - MIDTERMS ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION !!! Georgians know that   RAPHAEL WARNOCK is the best and    only choice for GEORGIA!  Right?     RIGHT GEORGIA??     We all know Herschel Walker  is a T-rump tool.   And anyone who votes for him is a fool.  But that's clearly not Georgia!  RIGHT???!! RAPHAEL WARNOCK HAS ALREADY PROVEN HIMSELF WORTHY - AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO AN EXCELLENT JOB OF REPRESENTING ALL THE PEOPLE OF GEORGIA.   GEORGIA ELECT STACEY ABRAMS GOVERNOR & RAPHAEL WARNOCK - SENATOR And while we're having this conversation, there is  absolutely no way you would blow the opportunity to elect STACEY ABRAMS as your governor.  Now that you know that the Georgia's elected officials have and will stoop to underhanded machinations to cheat you out of your choice - your right to vote  - you must be doubly vigilant and turn out in overwhelming numbers for VICTORY WITH ABRAMS 2022!! If our votes weren't so important, they wouldn't be working so hard to try to deprive us of our rights.  They know that once we get the majority in both the House and the Senate, that flips the script, changes the game, puts the shoe of the other foot, the worm turns, and we now have the power and privilege in our hands to take care of business. SO GEORGIA - AND THE REST OF THE US - WE HAVE TO COME TOGETHER  Y/OUR VOTES CONSTITUTE THE CRITICAL MASS - LET'S NOT DISAPPOINT THEM - LET'S VOTE LIKE Y/OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT - BECAUSE THEY DO!! Even on the rare occasions when he is able to string together coherent sentences, he makes wildly asinine claims or simply lies.  However, between the tsunami of lies uncovered about Walker’s past to his completely incomprehensible theories about COVID-19, evolution, and abortion, he’s the GOP’s (Gruesome, Obtuse, Pathological) man in Georgia and a football legend, so he is going to stay close no matter what. And thanks to Mitch McConnell's dark money donors, he is a real threat.  INTERESTING:  I CALL IT THE "RONALD REAGAN SYNDROME":  Reagan - like T-rump - was "elected" president because he was once in the movies and had name recognition.  Similarly, BECAUSE WannabeWalker  HAD SOME FAME AND NAME RECOGNITION, The repuglycons are relying on that same sort of ignorant "Idol worship" to get him elected!!
