Hey Sam!
My big Brutha from another Mother!
I’m celebrating you on your real DAY OF DAYS
AUGUST 16, 1943
THE DAY YOU EMERGED AND TOOK THE WORLD BY STORM
AND YOU'VE NEVER STOPPED!
I’m celebrating nearly 60 years of friendship!
I’m celebrating all the times you’ve gotten me into and out of
hot water and all those great days at Lincoln U
All the friends I would not have had, had it not been for you!
I’m celebrating all the ways in which you raised my consciousness and brought out my intrinsic BLACKNESS as well as our Lincoln University Classmates by introducing us to:
AJASS
GRANDASSA MODELS
GUS DINIZULU
ELOMBE BRATHB(aka Cecil Brathwaite)
KWAME BRATH
NATURALLY ‘66 - First Black Models with natural hair & African clothes
You turned LU from a “negrophile campus” to a BLACK POWER UNIVERSITY - long before other HBCUs figured it out.
You made us proud of our heritage and African linkages
Because of you, Tony Monteiro, Julian Ellison, Paul Moore & Maxine Stewart, I have been
Happy Nappy since 1966
I
cherish with fond memories the countless meetings we had with Doc
Hamilton, Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown - I felt like the Dieties put
me in a privileged space.
I love all the debates we had with our African brothers, and how we liberated Africa in so many ways - at least in our minds!
You were then, and are still waaaay ahead of everyone else.
