Cliveden of the National Trust will present its annual dramatic event, Liberty to Go to See, from June 15th-18th. An outdoor play and accompanying activities will not only explore how each character pursues liberty for themselves but asks visitors to examine what freedom and liberty mean historically and today.
Liberty to Go to See will be presented on the following days:
Wednesday, June 15th at 7pm
Thursday, June 16th at 7pm
Friday, June 17th at 7pm

Celebrate Juneteenth at the Library Company of Philadelphia
This year’s Juneteenth Freedom Program will feature public historian and artist Michelle Browder, the visionary behind the new The Mothers of Gynecology Monument in Montgomery Alabama which opened in February of 2022. The Mothers of Gynecology immortalizes three of the women — known as Anarcha, Lucy and Betsey — who went under J. Marion Sims’s knife, a doctor known as “father of modern gynecology” who performed experimental surgeries on enslaved women in antebellum era Alabama. Browder, who has been leading local award-winning history tours (known as “More Than Tours”) for the past ten years, will present on her decades long practice of intervening in dominant historical narratives and building alternative institutions.

Bill Strickland
As Founder and Executive Chairman of Manchester Bidwell Corporation (MBC) and its subsidiaries, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild (MCG) and Bidwell Training Center (BTC), and Center for Arts and Technology. Bill Strickland has created an educational model designed to create empowering educational environments for adults-in-transition as well as urban and at-risk youth, enriching Southwestern Pennsylvania and the world. In 1968, Strickland founded Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild to help combat the economic and social devastation experienced by the residents of his North Side neighborhood. Later in 1972, he assumed leadership of Bidwell Training Center to guide its transition to providing skills relevant to Pittsburgh’s economy. GRAMMY®-winning MCG Jazz was added to the MBC family in 1987, which is one of the National longest-running jazz subscription series in America. What started as an informal art program and exhibition space for inner-city minority children has now transformed into a 62,000 sq. ft. arts and career-training center, as well as a 40,000 sq. ft. production and educational greenhouse. Throughout Strickland’s distinguished career, he has been honored with numerous prestigious awards for his contributions to arts and the community, including the coveted MacArthur “Genius” award. JUNETEENTH
The National Constitutional Center (NCC) is FREE on Juneteenth to celebrate this national holiday and rejoice in the celebration of those who fought to secure freedom for all. Visitors can commemorate this historic event with special tours of the Center’s exhibit, Civil War and Reconstruction: The Battle for Freedom and Equality. The exhibit is the first permanent exhibit in America devoted to exploring how constitutional clashes over slavery set the stage for the Civil War and how the nation transformed the Constitution after the war to fully embrace the Declaration of Independence’s promise of liberty and equality. Additional programs highlight freedom fighters from the Reconstruction era like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and more.

Monday, June 20th 2022 from 4:00PM – 8PM Philadelphia, PA
For the second straight year, Germantown Cricket Club (GCC) will celebrate and recognize the history of Black tennis with a public event in honor of Juneteenth. The event will take place on Monday, June 20 from 4-8 p.m. Where: 411 Manheim St, Philadelphia, PA 19144
GCC, a historic and private club, will open its grounds to the public for this outdoor tennis celebration, which welcomes children and adults alike. The GCC grass courts will be utilized for a free junior clinic, along with an adult tennis round-robin. Registration is required for non-members and can be found here.
The event is organized by Friends of GCC, a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission of providing opportunity for youth, educational institutions, and community organizations to participate in ongoing events at GCC. As a supporting organization to GCC, Friends of GCC also engage in fundraising activities that support and benefit the club.
The event will feature vendor tables from local Black businesses, artists, athletes, and supporters, along with food trucks, live music, and more. Former USTA President and international tennis leader Katrina Adams will also be on hand for the event. Adams recently published a book, Own The Arena, which has been popular in tennis and non-tennis realms since its release.
Special ceremonies and additional details for the GCC Juneteenth event will be announced as the date becomes closer. Last year, the club recognized Joseph James — the first African American member at GCC — with a lifetime membership.
Details for this event are evolving. Media requests can be sent to walterrob312@gmail.com.
