GDW EVENT ALERT: School District of Philadelphia to host Sanctuary Schools Community Conversations Sept 13-15

By Gloria DULAN-Wilson

Hello All:

Well, it's back to school time and so many strategies are now in place due to Covid-19 and the heightened awareness of the plight of the victims in Afghanistan and other parts of the world.
Philadelphia passed resolutions about sanctuary schools and sanctuary cities after the former ersatz president began closing the door on refugees, the DACA  children, and those who had been living here under the protection of the United States.
Starting September 13th, the School District of Philadelphia will be hosting listening sessions and Community Conversations about the role of the sanctuary cities.  The dates and times are listed below.

Welcoming Sanctuary Schools Resolution Community Conversations

Greetings Family and Friends,
Please share with your network - Tamara Staley

In June 2021, the Board of Education passed the "Welcoming Sanctuary Schools" Resolution, in an effort to ensure that all Philadelphia public schools are safe havens for immigrant students and families. The Resolution, which can be found here, details the District's commitment to supporting all students and families, regardless of immigration status. The School District of Philadelphia will also be updating guidance and providing training to teachers, administrators and other staff, contractors, and volunteers on how to respond to issues involving immigration status and putting in place supports for students who may be impacted by federal immigration enforcement actions.

In honor of Welcoming Week 2021, the School District of Philadelphia will be hosting Community Conversations around the Welcoming Sanctuary Schools Resolution. Learn about the resolution, understand the District's goals, and share what you would like to see in this plan going forward.
90-minute virtual sessions will be conducted in five languages between September 13th and September 15th, 2021. Please find further details and information to join below:
