NEWS FLASH: State Rep. Johnson-Harrell Announces $1.7M in grants to fund Presidential Boulevard project

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

Just received this from Philadelphia State Representative Movita Johnson-Harrell, and it should make a bunch of us who traverse City {Line} Avenue very happy - they are finally going to reconnect the conduit between Monument Road and Presidential Boulevard.  Wonderful.  You can't get to Target unless you have a car - it's a gargantuan effort to walk up that hill to the shop.  Also, once you're there and you get your packages, you still have to get back to the buses - down the hill.  Perhaps they should be routed to run through the Mall, and back toward the street - both the Target mall on President and the Dollar Tree Mall on Conshohocken.

The City {Line} Avenue conduit is heavily traveled, and SEPTA should really work out better ways of servicing their customers.

But, this isn't about SEPTA -this is about the freshman State Representative making some big moves for her community and constituency.  So all we have to say is Excellent!!!

Johnson-Harrell: $1.7M in grants awarded to fund Presidential Boulevard project

State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell, D-Phila., announced today that $1.7 million in state funding has been awarded to City Avenue Special Services District for a project reconnecting Presidential Boulevard to Monument Road in Philadelphia.
“Currently, the heavy congestion at this site makes it dangerous for pedestrians and drivers to safely exit the parking lot near Target,” Johnson-Harrell said. “This funding will help create a new, safer entrance with a walkable path for residents and visitors so that there are fewer accidents.”
The project will connect the Target access road with Presidential Boulevard and Monument Road so that vehicles can exit directly onto Presidential Boulevard. Other renovations will include lighting along both roads, drainage improvements, construction of a bus stop, and a path for pedestrians and cyclists that connects to Fairmount Park.
The funding was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the  Multimodal Transportation Fund, which encourages economic development and ensures safe and reliable transportation is available to Pennsylvania residents.
The CFA provides funding for projects focused on development, water quality, energy infrastructure and more. To learn more, residents may visit this website.
