GDW EVENT ALERT: LIFE STORY OF MAHALIA JACKSON AT THE MET PHILADELPHIA NOV. 23-24

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All:

Philadelphians are in for a wonderful treat.  Mahalia Jackson is alive and well and living at the MET Philadelphia.  And you are going to want to be there, front and center, for each fascinating chapter of her inspiring life.

Many of us grew up listening to her marvelous singing voice.  She wasn't just one of the greats, she was the Greatest.

You could not listen to her and not be inspired.  And with Grammy Award winner, Ann Nesby, in the lead role, bringing Mahalia to life with her fantabulous vocal stylings, it will be like being in the room or the church with Mahalia all over again.  It's like living history.

And how fascinating is it that both her daughter, Jamecia Bennett, and her granddaughter, Paris Bennett, will each have lead roles in the performance.

Not to mention distinctively handsome John Canada Terrell of the FIVE HEART BEATS fame, in the pivotal role of "Uncle Smitty."

Mahalia Jackson was known as the Queen of Gospel - and truly inspired the Great Aretha Franklin, as well as many others with her deep commitment to spiritual music.  And who will ever forget the wonderful rendition she did in the 1959 version of "Imitation of Life?"  There wasn't a dry eye in the theatre.   We all still tear up watching it on television.  Mahalia's voice rules even now.

To my Brothers and Sisters in Philadelphia,  as well as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Baltimore and DC, this is worth the trip to come and check out this epochmaking performance and be a witness to history.  A stone's throw from 30th Street Station, Suburban Station, MegaBus, and all other modes of transportation,  the MET Philadelphia close to such signature restaurants as SOUTH.    It's a wonderful outing for couples and the family.

The Met is located at 858 N. Broad Street, with parking available on site.
Come hang in Philly and soak up some serious culture!!
