NOTE: OCTOBER 7, 2019 DEADLINE FOR VOTER REGISTRATION IN PHILLY - are you ready?

By Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Hello All

October 7, 2019 is the deadline for voter registration in Philadelphia, PA
I had no idea it was so soon!!
And I wondered why they were cutting it so short, until I realized that the general election date in Philadelphia is Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

I have mentioned to a fellow advocate that there should be an all out push to register those who are currently living in homeless shelters and senior citizen facilities - those who are also shut in can vote early, since they have difficulty getting to the polls.  It takes nothing to visit the Senior Citizen facilities and make it happen.

I don't know if this is a policy in Philadelphia - if it isn't, it should be - because they are still citizens - just operating under diminished mobile capacity. But they can make the difference between winning and losing an election.

That said:
Election time is coming - do you know who the candidates are? We can't afford to be sitting around acting as if these things are going to magically take care of themselves. The reason the Repuglycons  were able to attack our voting rights to begin with was because we had, as a people, become apathetic, negligent, sarcastic, and disrespectful of those rights, responsibilities and what they portended for us, our rights, power and future.  We obviously did not remember or respect the fact that there were many of our ancestors, and several of us contemporary seniors, who literally put our lives on the line so they could vote and have a decisive impact on what happens in this country - the city, the nation.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, voters in Pennsylvania go to the polls. Soon, you’ll be able to click on our  Ballot Tool to see who will be on your ballot.
Review the offices up for election in the menu to the left.

REMEMBER:  Leave no voter unturned, unregistered, and alone - if they need transportation - pick them up; if they need information, provide it to them; if they need relevance - show them what they have lost because of their lack of participation -
THE RULE FOR BLACK PEOPLE IS THIS:
VOTE AS THOUGH YOUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT - BECAUSE THEY DO.

My sister/friend Tamara Staley shared this with me, and I'm passing it on to you.
