‘Art Saves Lives’

Snow B - a modern retelling of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs debuts  Friday, August 9th
Snow B is a modern day hip/hop retelling of the classic tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This story written by Playwright, and Director, Lisa Y. Hopkins was written to address the ills of bullying that can lead to developing low self esteem and clinical depression. The Kama- Sahlor Group utilizes art to save lives to bring awareness to hopefully prevent this social disorder to coming to a head.

The Kama-Sahlor Group for Cultural Performing Arts presents, ‘Snow B,’ on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Parkway NW High School for Peace & Social Justice at 6:30pm. Children from Camp Kama- Sahlor for Performing Arts coming from all over Philadelphia and the suburbs have been cast in this hip/hop culture production.

Several hip/hop musical selections from the 1980’s hit ‘Funk You Up; by the Sugar Hill Label group, The Sequence is remixed to feature the talents of three leading role actresses, Kaila Ramos portraying Quenella, the evil step-mom, Jocelyn ‘JJ’ Butler who represents the mirror telling Queenella that she is not the finest of them all and Kaya Moore portraying the sweet and innocent Snow B.   This stage play incorporates break dance movements and acrobatic movement designed by Jasmine Joseph, a 2018 graduate from the High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) and a Kama-Sahlor alum.

Envy and jealousy play an evil and abusive part in the heart of the evil stepmother, Queenella as she tries to steal Prince from Snow B at the Extravaganz as she prepares an deadly sleeping portion. Will the kiss from Prince save Snow B from the curse? Come and see.

This comedic and family oriented performance is open to the public and ticket information can be obtained by calling the Kama- Sahlor Group @ 215900-1044 or lisayhop@msn.co
