Hello All:
I have consistently dubbed June as Black People's Month because we have so much stuff going on from the beginning of June through the very end. Actually, we've go so much stuff going on, we had to start in May.
This is a preliminary rundown of some of the events that are provided through the state, and state-related organizations. Mark your calendars and get your cameras ready. There is so much to be and do. And when you fold in ODUNDE`, three 3!!! - JUNETEENTH PARADES (Philadelphia is the only city on the East Coast to have 3 JUNETEENTH EVENTS; AND OTHER EVENTS, including A LINCOLN UNIVERSITY ALUMNI JUNETEENTH FISH FRY, among others, you'll go limping into July just in time to recuperate for the 4th of July and WELCOME AMERICA FESTIVITIES.
As I get more information, I will post updates. But, in the meantime, get ready - this is the 400th year of our being dragged here, kicking and screaming to this continent from our Mother Land, enslaved, and tortured, only to rise like the Phoenix and accomplish what no other people have ever done under similar circumstances.
We have much to celebrate as the most talented, creative, resilient, intelligent, spiritual, viable, people on the planet.
Stay Blessed &
ECLECTICALLY BLACK

Please
join the Library Company of Philadelphia for the exhibition opening
of
“From Negro Pasts to Afro-Futures: Black Creative Re-Imaginings”.
The
emergence of Afro-futurism as a relatively new
construct in African studies and Black history allows for Library
Company of Philadelphia
to
pay homage to a more fleshed out African past and also show how black
historical leaders
envisioned
a glorious black future. By displaying fragments of early Black
Americans’ past
from
their drawings, love letters, poems, songs, speeches, and protests,
this exhibition can help
visitors
grapple with the black creative genius in the quest for a people’s
liberation.
The
exhibition will be open from May 24th
to
October 18, 2019.

Juneteenth
is a commemoration of the day when enslaved Texans
learned
they
had
been freed.
This
anniversary asks what freedom truly meant during Douglass's and Du
Bois's times,
which
spanned eras of enslavement, sharecropping, Jim Crow laws, and
lynching.
At
These Crossroads Curator Dr. Judith Giesberg will discuss
African
American freedom in the context of these men’s work.

Library
Company of Philadelphia:
Please
join the Library Company of Philadelphia for the exhibition of
“From
Negro Pasts to Afro-Futures: Black Creative Re-Imaginings”.
The
emergence of Afro-futurism as a relatively new construct in Africana
studies and
Black
history allows for Library Company of Philadelphia to pay homage to a
more
fleshed
out Black past and also show how Black historical leaders envisioned
a
glorious
Black future. By displaying fragments of early Black Americans’
past from
their
drawings, love letters, poems, songs, speeches, and protests,
this
exhibition can help visitors grapple with the Black creative genius
in
the quest for a people’s liberation.
The
exhibition will be open from May 24th
to
October 18, 2019.
Cost
of Event, Free
