Friday, August 3, 2018

The Kama-Sahlor Group for Cultural Performing Arts presents ‘Lil’ Romeo & Juliesha’ written and directed by Philadelphia’s own, Lisa Hopkins affectionately known as ‘Sister Lisa.
This high-energy production features children from ages 7 to 18 throughout the city of Philadelphia who are excited to be a part of a Northwest Philadelphia community’s summer camp production.

This seven week program provided lessons on: Hip/hop dance, modern dance, theater arts, vocal arts all needed to help develop confidence, communication and public speaking abilities for children at risk who essentially lack resources.

Li Romeo & Juliesha’ is a modern re-telling of the classic Shakespearean Romeo & Juliette addressing bullying and violence that affects African- American children in our present community.
Justin Booker, a product from the New Freedom Theater and the Kama- Sahlor Group designed explosive choreography truly representing the hate between two family classes while also displaying the true love between the two leading actors, Lil’ Romeo portrayed by Kaire Ramos a 15 year old from Cheltenham and Juliesha, a 14 year old Maria Lawson from Germantown.
Lee Anthony Campbell wears many hats in this production as the acting coach, stage manager and actor who comes from the Germantown Theater Center under the tutelage of Bruce Robinson, an all time Barrymore award winner.

An R& B classic,’ We Are One’ originally written by Philadelphia’s own, Maze featuring Frankie Beverley and Remix recorded by Colone will be featured as the tehem song of the play with new lyrics written and performed by Jaron Elijah Hopkins son of the playwright, Lisa Hopkins and Justin Booker.

This multifaceted performance is being presented to the public on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Parkway NW High School for Peace and Social Justice located at 6200 Crittenden Street Philadelphia, Pa 19138 for one show only at 6:00pm.
