Hello All:
Well, it's official - the month of June belongs to Black People or at least it ought to be - so I'm claiming it:
JUNE IS BLACK PEOPLE'S MONTH!!! DEAL WITH IT - ENJOY IT - SHARE IT
In fact, when you think about it, we pretty much dominate June - so much so, we actually start it in May, with the celebration of Malcolm X's Birthday on May 19, and keep up the momentum to Dance Africa on Memorial Day Weekend New York), and then segue right into a round of June activities non-stop, right up to July with the celebration of Black Arts.

Any who doubts that June belongs to Black people (especially Black people in Philadelphia) should consider this:
June is Black Music Month, Caribbean Heritage Month, Juneteenth Celebrations - Philadelphia actually has two JUNETEENTH CELEBRATIONS
ONE IN GERMANTOWN and the other in CENTER CITY
Both events are awesome!!!
Juneteenth in Center City is sponsored by The Philadelphia Council of Leaders(PCOL)
This is their third year, but promises to be a monumental event - Channel 6 - WPVI-TV will broadcast the entire parade from opening ceremony to the culmination of the merchants fair at Penn's Landing. The Parade will have more than 3000 participants from all over the US, as well of Philadelphia local talent. Special discount hotel accommodations have been made for those traveling to Philadelphia to participate in or see the parade; and lets of Black owned restaurants, businesses and other attractions are also being provided for tourists and locals alike.
This is the beginning of an annual massive parade and festival, commemorating our ancestors who first learned of their freedom in Texas literally 2 years after others had been freed - it was called Juneteenth because the date they received the news was on June 19th, over 150 years ago.
Prior to Juneteenth is Odunde (Philadelphia), now in it's 43rd year. There should be a smile on the face of every Black Philadelphian as we celebrate our heritage and share our respect ands regards for each other - and look forward to so many more wonderful things to com.
So anyone who claims there's nothing to do or nothing going on is not tuned in to what's happening on this planet - or not trying
Make it your business to support your Black Businesses and your Black Celebrations
It's our culture - and it's up to us to keep it alive.
As always, this list is by no means exhaustive - there is always something going on - just want to put some positive things on your plate
AND REMEMBER:

DANCE AFRICA 2018: CELEBRATES SOUTH AFRICA
Dance Africa is one of my favorite events on the Planet - I've only missed 3 during the entire history of the event, and those times were due to illness. I've been a fan since Baba Chuck Davis first announced his intention to establish it back in the 80's - and my loyalty continues through the assumption of leadership by Brother Abdel R. Salaam, who is also the founder of Forces of Nature, another favorite dance troupe of mine. Baba Chuck announced he was passing the baton to Abdel in 2015, made his transition in 2017, secure in the knowledge that his legacy was in excellent hands.

NEW YORK AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL
The New York African Film Festival (NYAFF) celebrates its milestone 25th edition, with a presentation of African and diaspora film and culture. Co-presented with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music and Maysles Cinema, the 2018 festival will feature new and classic African cinema, with a special focus on works by women and younger generations of African and diaspora creators, highlighting an intergenerational discourse. We also celebrate the centennial and legacy of Nelson Mandela. As in previous years, the festival program will include screenings and discussions with filmmakers and artists, panels, master classes and an art exhibit. This year, the NYAFF is preceded by events at city-wide locations to celebrate its milestone 25th!
