Hello All:
Well, we made it through January 20th - and we're still here to talk about it. The first five days after the swearing on of America by T-Rump showed overcast skies. I was beginning to think that it was some Biblical message to America to beware of the impending destruction now that you have allowed the succubus to become predator in chief.
But the Sun finally did peek through today. Thank goodness.
So I took it as a sign that I might as well post upcoming events since the Infinite hasn't quite decided to destroy us all yet.
There are several things in the works that center around the onslaught of attacks against the government by the predator - which I will list under a separate heading, so that it does not contaminate more positive, uplifting and joyous events.

Select two places to meet: a spot outside your home for an emergency such as fire, and a place away from your neighborhood in case you cannot return home (a real possibility during the day when most adults are at work and children are at school). NATIONAL CARES MENTORING MOVEMENT’S
FOR THE LOVE OF OUR CHILDREN GALA
ON JANUARY 30 IN NEW YORK CITY
At Cipriani 42nd Street
THE GALA WILL CELEBRATE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF BLACK MEN AND HONOR LONNIE G. BUNCH III, RUSSELL SIMMONS AND FENCES EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, CHARLES D. KING
CICELY TYSON AND RENÉE ELISE GOLDSBERRY AMONG PRESENTERS AND CELEBRANTS
At the close of an historic presidency, this year’s gala will celebrate the creativity of African-American men and the many gifts they have given to our nation. Honorees include renowned entrepreneur and hip-hop icon Russell Simmons, who has dedicated over 20 years of his life to helping dismantle punitive drug policy laws that led to the over-incarceration of young Black people; Lonnie G. Bunch III, the driving force and founding director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and recipient of Delta Sigma Thea Remembering Our Heritage Award (2016); and Charles D. King, executive producer of the critically acclaimed film Fences, and Founder and CEO of the firm, MACRO, which is committed to creating premium film, television and cinematic digital content with universal themes that shine a light on the complexity and beauty of African-American, Latino and multicultural lives.
"Breaking the cycle of poverty, which is shredding young lives, is the big business of America,” said CARES founder and CEO, Susan L. Taylor. “Our communities, industries and government cannot thrive with so much talent struggling along the margins in extreme poverty, which the U.S. Census Bureau defines as annual household income of $12,129 for a family of four with two related children. It’s inhumane, and linking arms and aims, we can fix it! It‘s a national mandate to elevate fragile lives.” Taylor concluded.
If this event is as spectacular as last year's, you'll definitely want to make it your business to attend - GDW

African American Children’s Book Fair to return to Philadelphia for 25th year
CENTER CITY >> Once again, Germantown, Mount Airy and West Oak Lane children and parents are invited to attend the largest gathering of authors, illustrators and their creations. The 25th annual African American Children’s Book Fair will feature some with Northwest Philadelphia roots. It’s a short commute to Community College of Philadelphia, 1700 Spring Garden St., Saturday, Feb. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the start of Black History Month.
Perhaps no one is more excited about this event than Vanesse Lloyd-Sgambati, who is the brainchild of the event. She said more than 3,500 attended last year’s fair.
“We always get such a strong turnout from those who live in the Germantown and Mount Airy area. That is because I think that parents there understand the importance of reading and we do appreciate the strong participation from the Northwest part of the city,” Lloyd-Sgambati said.
There will be many freebies for all the young book lovers at the event. Yet Northwest Philadelphia area teachers and librarians will find there is an abundance of materials for them. They will have the “Our Educator’s Book Giveaway” to distribute brand new books to teachers for use in their classrooms or school libraries

A traditional Seminole Maroon Spiritual Remembrance on January 15, and two days of commemorative events on January 27 and 28, will mark the 179th anniversary of the two pivotal 1838 Battles of the Loxa- hatchee River in northern Palm Beach County, at Loxahatchee Battlefield Park, 9060 West Indiantown Road, located one mile west of both Interstate 95 and Florida’s Turnpike in Jupiter, Florida.
The two pivotal confrontations, dubbed “Powell’s Battle,” fought on January 15, and “Jesup’s Battle,” on Jan- uary 24, named in memory of the U.S. commanding officers, Navy Lt. Levin Powell and Army Gen. Thom- as Jesup, pitted 500 to 700 Native and African American Seminole warriors defending their freedom, lands and families against approximately 1,700 ill-equipped but better armed U.S. soldiers and sailors and Ten- nessee Volunteers, in what would prove to be the turning point in the decades-long Florida Wars, as many of the survivors, although not defeated, were captured after being lured to Fort Jupiter under a white flag of truce, and deported on the Trail of Tears to Oklahoma Territory or, in some cases, sold to “slave catchers.”
Honoring All of the Fallen
The Remembrance on January 15, the actual anniversary date of the first battle, includes traditional Native American, African, and American military prayers and memorial ceremonies, historic presentations and displays, cultural vendors, live performances, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by guided tours of the Bat- tlefield at 1:00 p.m., provided by the Loxahatchee Battlefield Preservationists.
Significantly, the event takes place on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, and on the actual January 15 birth date of Dr. King, whose teachings of nonviolence and the needlessness and injustices of warfare provide an appropriate backdrop for understanding the dynamics of the two battles, as we pause to honor the memory of all of those, on all sides, whose lives were sacrificed on that sacred ground and in the aftermath.
Bringing History to Life
The commemoration of these history-making battles continues with an Education Day on Friday, January 27, for 4th and 5th graders who will take a field trip to the Battlefield site, where they will meet reenactors, and on Saturday, January 28, beginning at 10:00 a.m., an actual reenactment will be held, bringing to life the drama of the two battles, with soldiers in the uniforms of the time, and Seminoles dressed in their fin- est, following the tradition of making the best appearance if one must die in battle.
