Hello All:

I just received this wonderful, innovative information that I want to share with you. You know there is nothing more compelling than an idea whose time has come.  And this one is certainly exemplary of that old saying in so many ways.  

Though they try hard to deny it, most of our African brothers and sisters suffer from a lack of modern conveniences, and hygienic services.  While they sometimes tout the modern structures that have been erected in their countries, largely by euroimperialists, and decry any hint of poverty as propaganda, the fact still remains that 75% of Africa is still living in unsafe, squallid conditions - without indoor plumbing, electricity, and modern technology.

While the following is not a solution to the entire problem, it's an interesting step in the right direction.  

A group of college students got together to come up with a sustainable solution to the issue of diseases and hygiene that permeates several African communities, and found that soap was a simple solution that could be the beginning of other broad based businesses.   The organization calls themselves  Health 2 Humanity .  They have partnered with Spavia Day Spas  to provide socially conscious products to over a dozen Spavia locations across the country. Health 2 Humanity will provide vegan, non-GMO, cruelty-free and hypo-allergenic soaps for purchase at Spavia locations in California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Texas.    

The soaps are hand made in Kenya, East Africa, by Kenyans, and then exported to the various locations mentioned above - for every bar that is sold, there is a bar of soap donated free to an African child, or his or her family.  The income from the sales in turn are salaries paid to the makers of the soap, which can then be used in turn to provide for other essentials for themselves and their families. 

Now, I for one, love spas. I'm all in for a day of pampering.  I used to book spa packages for Spa Finders, and it was always fascinating to learn of the many and various ways you can escape from the daily grind into a haven where all that craziness melts away. But this is the first time I'm coming across a spa that not only gives you all the benefits and treatments you look for in a spa package, but is linked into socially responsible charitable endeavors as well.  So it compels me to check them out.  

According to their publicist, this is Health 2 Humanity’s first foray into the retail space, and the company has  made plans to provide its products at all Spavia locations, as well as additional day spas, resorts, salons and more.

Not to bash those of us who are activists, because we provide an essential need as well, but it is also great to see that simple things can be developed into expansive sustainable solutions to problems that many people face in their day-to-day walks in life in the first world.

There are, I am well aware, many products emanating from amongst us that incorporate home grown, hand made products - so this  expansive step in the right direction can be further inspiration and instruction for linking those products with other entities to even further the efficacy and effectiveness of distribution, profitability, and sustained control.
